The SLDL office hopes to engage students, faculty, and staff in ways
that promote and develop an inclusive and diverse environment.
We oversee student clubs, promote student engagement, host events and workshops related to diversity and leadership, advise international students, promote mentorship, and manage health insurance enrollment. For more information on events, visit the CGU Events Calendar.

LeAD 6P Leadership Framework Workshop

Thursday, February 15th|            11:30AM - 1:30PM

Location: Academic Computing Building 214

Join LeAd Labs for this workshop and gain a better understanding of your personal leadership strengths and weaknesses and three SMART action strategies to implement in your personal leader development plan. Lunch will be provided. SLDL is pleased to co-sponsor this leadership workshop.

kin*dle Valentine Open-mic

Tuesday, February 13th| 4PM - 6PM Location: Hagelbargers Cafe

What's better than belting out love ballads? Join SLDL for a cosy evening of eating,  singing, and celebrating love amidst academic stress. Come showcase your stories, poems and songs at our February kin*dle Open Mic & Karaoke Night! Apps and drinks will be provided.

What is kin*dle? A space for continuing students to develop community

kin*dle actively acknowledges that our student body maintains multiple roles in their daily lives beyond CGU. It also recognizes that community building starts with and includes personal family and academic family. With this in mind, kin*dle seeks to create spaces and opportunities where continuing students can focus on developing a diverse and inclusive community.

OPT Workshop

Friday, February 2nd | 10 AM- 11AM
Virtual

SLDL will host an Optional Practical Training (OPT) workshop, open to all current F-1 students, especially those who are planning to apply for pre/post-completion OPT during the current or upcoming semester. During the session, we will cover information on what OPT is, and the application process including eligibility rules, timeline and required documents for submission.

Student Spotlights

Steve Flores (he/él) is a proud son of immigrants and a first-generation Latino Ph.D. student in the School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University. His doctoral research interests explore the Latinx college student experience as it intersects with citizenship status, college access, and sense of belonging in higher education. He was awarded the 2023 William H. Blanning Graduate Award for demonstrating outstanding academic standing, leadership, and character from the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation.

Steve completed his Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs & Educational Justice and the Allies of Dreamer Certificate from Claremont Graduate University. During this time at CGU, Steve has been an active leader in student government first serving as the School of Educational Studies (SES) representative on the Graduate Student Council (GSC) and numerous committees across campus, then being elected the GSC Secretary, and is now serving as the GSC President. As GSC President, Steve is committed to DEIJ principles, increasing student and alumni affinity to CGU, collaboration across campus, and reimagining the GSC governance structure.
