June 2021Parents, guardians, and family members of new students— This message was recently sent to your student; please ask them about any questions you may have. Dear fellow Knight, Welcome—we’re looking forward to you becoming a part of Geneseo! Here are a few hints to help you as you begin your journey: • Check your Geneseo email regularly. It's important to get into this habit early since the College, faculty, and staff will use email as a key communication tool. It's a good idea to link your email to your smart device, if you have one. • Watch your email for more information about your orientation experience. Orientation and Weeks of Welcome help first-year and transfer students transition to college and Geneseo, prepare for the academic experience, and make new connections. The program and schedule of events are still being finalized, so stay tuned! • Visit the New Student Checklist for helpful information, including deadlines and office contact information for specific questions. • Start exploring your new home online—you can fin a lot of important information at Current Students. If you have questions about your arrival on campus or what you’ll experience when you get here, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either of us for answers. We’re happy to help you navigate this new chapter in your life. Another great resource for finding information is the search feature on the main Geneseo webpage. Click on the magnifying glass on the upper right side of the page. Congratulations again on being a new Geneseo Knight—we’re excited to help you begin your next adventure! Welcome to Geneseo! Now that you've secured your place for the fall, it's time to submit all documentation regarding the student code of conduct, health services, orientation, and housing. Resources Incoming first-year students can take either a summer pre-college online course OR the Geneseo Experience summer bridge course. You can earn credit and work closely with Geneseo faculty before your first year even begins! Each year, SUNY Geneseo chooses a book to read in common during the summer. This year’s selection is This Is One Way to Dance, by Sejal Shah. Student cohorts from across campus (Living-Learning Communities, Edgar Fellows, Access Opportunity Programs, etc.) participate in the read over the summer, a discussion during opening weekend, and events throughout the year. The Department of Residence Life offers two Summer Experience programs for incoming and returning students: The Adirondack Experience and Sustainability of the Genesee Valley, both based in Geneseo for Summer 2021. The programs are a great way to get involved and meet students before the fall semester starts. Incoming students participating in Access Opportunity Programs—the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) —will attend a mandatory Summer Scholars Program, an orientation for AOP students. The program runs July 6–30. Questions? Email aop@geneseo.edu or call 585-245-5725. KnightWeb is the Banner Web Self-Service student information system that provides students and faculty with access to registration, courses, final grades, unofficial transcripts, financial aid, student bills, personal information, campus mailbox/combination, and more.
