More Guided Hikes Added to our Events Calendar for July
Our summer hike series continues strong this month, with five upcoming hikes now available on our Summer 2021 schedule! July highlights include a nature walk with Pete Costello of the Stone Zoo, an ecology-focused walk with Prof. Colin Orians of Tufts University, a history hike with author Doug Heath, and more. IMPORTANT: Please note that space for all guided hikes is strictly limited, and pre-registration will be required for all group events in the Fells this fall (no on-site registrations will be permitted). For more information on any event, click on the "PRE-REGISTER HERE" link provided: Nature Walk with Pete Costello We’ll walk around the High Fells Reservoirs looking for different animal signs and animal habitats. This area has several vernal pools we can investigate, and the reservoirs can be a great place to view summer waterfowl. Sunday, July 11, 9:15 AM- 11:30 AM

History Stroll Along the Spot Pond Shore with Doug Heath We will learn about the great stone mansions of Wyoming Estates, including the Botume House, Tudor estate and barn (entry available), James Eaton's mansion, and William Bailey Lang's house. The route will follow the Spot Pond shoreline clockwise to Route 28 and back. Sunday, July 11, 1:00 PM- 2:30 PM

Interpreting the Once and Future Landscape through Trees with Dr. Colin Orians Colin Orians is a professor of Biology and Director of Environmental studies at Tufts University. His work explores the impact of climate and pests on natural and managed plant
communities, including the impacts of the hemlock woolly adelgid in New England forests. Saturday, July 17, 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM

Family Walk at Long Pond with Winchester Trails This will be a comfortably-paced walk along the Long Pond Trail in the Winchester section of the Middlesex Fells, looking at meadow, woods, pond and swamp areas. We'll touch on the history and natural history of the Fells and the history of the early Native American inhabitants. Tuesday, July 20, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Bellevue Pond In Flower with Boot Boutwell It’s mid-summer and the area around Bellevue Pond is in full flower. We’ll do a circuit of Bellevue Pond and also head up to the top of Pine Hill to enjoy the wonderful view of Boston and also check out some upland
wildflowers. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history about the plants we see. Monday, July 26, 9:15 AM - 11:30 AM

To ensure the safety of all group work, DCR has established new guidelines for group projects/events in the parks. We will adhere to these guidelines for the foreseeable future: - Groups will be limited to a maximum of 15 individuals (including participants, staff, and instructors)
- Pre-registration will be required for all events (no onsite registration will be offered).
- In order to allow other interested individuals to attend our hikes, please contact us to cancel registrations as soon as possible if schedules change.
- Projects/events will not exceed 2 hours in duration
- Face masks or face coverings are recommended, and
- Participants must adhere to social distancing guidelines and attempt to remain 3 feet apart
