As I write this message, I am hoping all our residents have had a wonderful time with family and friends over the Easter break. Residents, you will notice a lot of activity of the next couple of weeks. Scaffolding has been put up around our Town Hall as our renovations and roof replacement has commenced. I look forward to seeing our beautifully restored Town Hall at the end of the year to celebrate its 100 year anniversary. Works will also take place at Henley Road, Homebush West as Council installs a new facility. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused, however, we know this will be a great addition to the Homebush West Shopping Centre. I look forward to seeing you out and about over the next week. Come and say hi, I'm always up for a chat. As always, if you require help with Council issues, please contact me on cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or my office on 9748 9924. THROWBACK THURSDAYThe Strathfield and Burwood Spitfire Fund As the German Luftwaffe attacked Britain during 1940, crowdfunding campaigns to build Spitfires in defence began. In December 1940 the Strathfield and Burwood Spitfire Fund was formed at Strathfield Town Hall. President, Emily Herron, and her committee of ladies, organised donations, tennis competitions and garden parties. Sisters, Madeline and Nanette Drayton painted 12 large posters of Spitfires and invited locals to cover them with silver coins. During May 1941 the committee cabled £3750 to Prime Minister Winston Churchill in grateful recognition of the heroic women of Britain and Mr Churchill’s inspiring leadership, receiving an appreciative
cablegram from Churchill in return. EVENTSமுதியோர் தொழில்நுட்ப நடைமுறைக் கல்வி – தமிழ் Tech Savvy Seniors – TamilWhen: 1 Apr - 5 May
