The first of August each year marks the start of Multicultural Queensland Month, and everyone in Queensland is encouraged to get involved by participating in events and opportunities to learn, take action and celebrate— from festivals to educational sessions, there’s something for everyone. We can experience amazing cultures and foods and connect with people from all around the world right here on our doorstep! Visit Cultural diversity – Logan City Council to find out some of the ways that Council is encouraging a welcoming and inclusive city for our diverse communities. This edition includes information on local multicultural events and activities, a safety session for seniors and a fantastic opportunity for indigenous youth. Recognising that Loneliness Awareness Week also occurs in August, you will find resources to assist with #EndingLonelinessTogether and creating a culture of connection at home, work, school and in the community. Community EventsMulticultural Career & Job Expo 2024In partnership with Logan City Council, Qld State Government, Workforce Australia Local Jobs Brisbane Southeast, and other community organisations, Queensland Training and Employment Services (QTES) is proudly hosting its annual Multicultural Career & Job Expo. The event will show the multicultural community the range of resources available to them and to help them build connections with employment, career and education providers. Highlights include:

Swimming for AdultsAustralia has many rivers, lakes and oceans so it’s important for all Australians to know how to swim. The Active & Healthy program offers learn to swim programs for people who are learning English. By empowering adults through swim safety and stroke introduction, this free program contributes to a more welcoming and inclusive city. Watch the Now I can swim video with messaging in Burmese, Mandarin, Swahili, Arabic, Dari, Somali and English, to discover the many activities you can enjoy by learning to swim. Mindful Movements Mindful Movements enhances balance, strength and coordination as well as physical and mental health. Join Phil Hopes from Hopes in Motion for a morning of FREE seated or standing Tai Chi, meet new people and have some fun! You will need a water bottle, small towel and wear nice comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. When: Every Tuesday, 9:30am to 10:30am ResourcesLoneliness Awareness Week 2024New research reveals 1 in 3 Australians from all walks of life feel lonely, and 1 in 4 experience persistent loneliness. This Loneliness Awareness Week (5-11 August), Ending Loneliness Together is sharing real stories to spark conversations about why we feel lonely and encouraging all Australians to create a culture of connection at home, work, school and in the community. Hear from Australians about their experiences of loneliness, download free practical resources and learn how you can create opportunities for meaningful social connection. OpportunitiesQueensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program 2024This is an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland, aged 18–25, to come together to become leaders and drive change in local communities. Join a supportive community that will inspire you, strengthen your leadership skills, and foster lasting cultural and professional connections. Applications for QIYLP are open now until Friday 13 September 2024. External Funding OpportunitiesForced Marriage Specialist Support Program (FMSSP) The Australian Government is inviting organisations via an open competitive process to apply to deliver services nationally under the Program 2.1 – Families and Communities – Support for Trafficked People – Forced Marriage Specialist Support Program from 2024–25 to 2027–28. Applications close: 9pm Monday 5 August 2024 Sisters of Charity Foundation Community Grants Each year the Sisters of Charity Foundation provide grants of up to $15,000 for community projects and programs within Australia. These grants are aimed at helping groups who make a huge difference to those in need, but struggle to find funding through other avenues. They may be ineligible for government assistance or be too small or lacking the right market appeal to attract the attention of larger organisations, but their causes are no less worthy, and their needs are no less real. Applications open: Monday 5 August 2024. Applications close: Friday 30 August 2024 Ansvar’s Community Education Program Grant funding for sustainable education and life skill development programs designed to help and support disadvantaged young Australians under the age of 25. Ansvar’s Community Education Program provides grants up to $50,000 for programs supporting Australian youth which fall under two categories:
Applications open: Monday 12 August 2024. Applications close: Friday 20 September 2024 Applications are now open for The Scanlon Foundation 2024 Annual Community Grants. These grants focus on two areas that are consistently raised by the community as particular areas of need -employment and literacy. In both areas, the Foundation welcomes innovative approaches. Organisations can apply for up to $30,000 for their project. An information session via webinar will be held at 1pm on Monday 5 August. Applications close: midnight Friday 30 August 2024 Applications are now open for the Greenbank Services Club Community Benefit Foundation. The Foundation aims to provide support to the local community and provide direct grants to charitable organisations helping improve community welfare and make our local communities a better place to live, work and play. Applications close: Wednesday 14 August 2024 Applications are now open for round four of the Queensland Remembers Grants Program to support Queensland Veterans. Eligible organisations can apply for funding of up to $250,000 for major capital work projects and up to $50,000 for minor capital works or community projects and events that support Queensland veterans and their families. Applications close: 5pm Monday 23 September 2024 Logan City Council Logan City Council acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways across the City of Logan.
