SUMMER SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY

Dear Valued Customer,

This summer we are estimating around 400 people being able to participate in swim lessons (38% more spots than our last session) including spots dedicated to Camp KHAOS (see below for class times). To accommodate this, we will be closing the pool at 2pm on Friday, June 23 and remaining closed on Saturday, June 24 for registration. This allows us to have all hands-on-deck to register users, perform swim tests and ensure a smooth registration date. All registrations will be in-person or over-the-phone.

At this time, we do not allow online registration to ensure all participants are placed in the correct levels to ensure no surprises when you show up for your first lesson.

IMPORTANT PHONE REGISTRATION INFO: For Saturday, June 24, there will only be two (2) staff members dedicated to phones with a number of calls. Please continue to try to call, and setup an account ahead of time (see Create CivicRec account at swim lesson page).

REGISTRATION DATES

With the change to a summer schedule with children out of school, we will make the following changes to ensure a smooth transition. We still have resident priority to ensure residents of Des Moines and Normandy Park receive priority. Please see registration dates and times below.

Below is the NEW swim lesson schedule for this summer, not including pre-competitive swim options (info coming next week). The schedule is setup to accommodate the most participants in swim lessons. Note-the PM class options were updated to match the number of classes available. No classes will be offered on Monday, July 3rd due to the Independence Day holiday.

NEW! PRACTICE TIME (NOW WITH FREE PARENT USAGE)

The district is dedicated to help youth become better swimmers and more comfortable in the water. We realize that swim lessons alone are not enough, and that practice is key to your child's success. This summer we will allow current youth swim participants and one parent* free entry during the following times.

FREE (FAMILY) SWIM OPTION TIMES

AM Class Participants: Monday-Thursday, 11am-Noon
PM Class Participants:
- Monday & Wednesday, 6-7pm
- Tuesday & Thursday, 5-6pm

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO PRACTICE WITH YOUR CHILD?

PLAY: Playing in the water with your children will help them apply their skills in a fun manner.
COMFORT: Swimming with your child will help them be more comfortable around the water.
BONDING: For teaching younger children, helping support them and perform the skills is a great activity to do together.
SUCCESS: Moving up levels in swim lessons takes not only learning, but mastering swim skills.
SUPPORT: Practicing with your child shows that you are willing to help them succeed.

POOL CLOSED

Just a reminder the Mount Rainier Pool will be closing the pool at 2pm (Registration starts at 3pm) on Friday, June 23 and remaining closed all-day on Saturday, June 24. This is to ensure all staff will be on hand to help with swim lesson registration. We will re-open on our regular time on Monday, June 26.

On Friday, June 23, we will start handing registration numbers out at 2pm, but registration starts at 3pm.

On Saturday, June 24, we will start handing out numbers at 7:30am, but registration starts at 8am.

REFUND POLICY

We are adding a service fee to ensure people are not dropping out of swim lessons at the last minute. This takes open spots away from others and effects the quality of lessons.

For swim lessons, a $10 service fee (plus pro-rated first class, if needed) will be added for refunds, and no refunds will be processed after the first class.

Again, this is to improve the quality of programming and maximize attendance in classes.

JULY SCHEDULE CHANGE

We will be updating our schedule to accommodate summer programming including swim lessons, pre-competitive swim, swim teams and increased summer staffing availability. We will make an update next week (the last week of June) that will take effect in early July.

Also, just a reminder that we will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th for Independence Day.
