Geoffrey King Bernays (Fr 1946)

The Principal, Council and St Andrew’s College community honour the life of Dr Geoffrey King Bernays (Fr 1946) who passed away on 12th April 2021, aged 97.

Geoffrey resided at St Andrew’s College from 1946 – 1948 after being discharged from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and went on to study medicine at the University of Sydney. He fondly remembered his time at College making new friends and participating in various sports. Geoffrey met his wife Audrey whilst he was at College and she was residing at the Women’s College. The two married in 1949 and were together for 72 years.

Geoffrey continued to be involved in College life over time and was a regular supporter of the Rural & Regional Scholarship Fund as well as a member of the 1867 Circle. His reason for joining the Circle was to carry on scholarships for deserving students who could not otherwise afford to come to College if it were not for financial support.

Geoffrey had a long successful career in medical practice and went on to have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many dear friends.

The Bernays family are held strongly in our thoughts and our dearest sympathy is extended to all who knew him.
