30 October 2025

Dear Residents,

As the festive season draws near, so do our annual Christmas Carols. This joyous evening features local performers, food, and fun for the whole family. We’re inviting local food stallholders to submit a food stall application and join us for an evening of Christmas cheer at Strathfield Park. For more information and to apply, click here.

The Strathfield Council 2025 Community Grants have been awarded to 18 outstanding community groups and organisations working to make Strathfield the best it can be. In honour of our deserving winners, we are holding an awards ceremony on Friday 14 November, 2:00pm – 3:30pm in Strathfield Library. Please RSVP to communityservices@strathfield.nsw.gov.au before Sunday 9 November.

Every year, Council announces a Local and Young Citizen of the Year to acknowledge those who have made outstanding contributions to our community. If you know someone deserving of this recognition, nominations are now open for 2026 and the application form be found on Council’s website here. Nominations close on Friday 12 December. I’m looking forward to learning more about the great work our community is participating in.

This morning, I attended a sod turning event to mark the commencement of revitalisation works in Strathfield Park. With thanks to the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, we’ll also see Hudson District Park, Begnell Field, Airey Park Oval and Cooke Park upgraded with much needed sporting and recreational facilities.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

HAVE YOUR SAY: Exhibition of Amendment to Part P – Heritage of Strathfield DCP 2005

Council is seeking community feedback on amendments to Part P – Heritage of Strathfield DCP 2005.

The amendments propose to:
👉 introduce site classifications (Contributory, Neutral and Intrusive) for each property in each of the HCAs. These classifications provide a clear framework for understanding how individual properties contribute to the heritage significance of an HCA. The classifications are supported by DCP controls.
👉 update Statements of Significance for 15 HCAs. These statements have been updated to provide a clearer understanding of the heritage significance of the HCA.

You are invited to review the draft and provide feedback on the proposed amendments by completing the form here.

The amendments are on exhibition until Friday 21 November 2025.

COMMUNITY UPDATE

Strathfield Community Garden Update

With thanks to our incredible community volunteers, the Strathfield Community Garden at Elva Street in Lakers Reserve is coming along very well.

On Saturday 25 October, members of the garden came together to do some major and thorough weeding, incorporating all the vegetables that are steadily flourishing in the garden beds. Most of the vegetables are in season where we have some tomatoes growing and some beans. We’ve also been doing several seedlings and have established a small mini green space, which is has been very successful.  We find that with enough sunshine and good watering they are sprouting steadily. We’ve managed to sprout some peanuts, chillies and capsicum and have started planting some fresh herbs hoping that in the next few days they will sprout well.  Once they get strong roots we will put them in the beds hoping that they will flourish.

At this very moment, the mulberries tree is blooming with wild and fresh mulberries, which goes very well with yogurt or even ice-cream. Members have been picking them and taking them home. If you are interested in the community garden, you are most welcome to pop in and come and visit us.  We are open every Thursday from 3pm to 5.30pm and we hold an educational BBQ gathering on the last Saturday of the month.
