🕘10am – 12:30pm COMMUNITY UPDATE Strathfield Community Garden Update With thanks to our incredible community volunteers, the Strathfield Community Garden at Elva Street in Lakers Reserve is coming along very well. On Saturday 25 October, members of the garden came together to do some major and thorough weeding, incorporating all the vegetables that are steadily flourishing in the garden beds. Most of the vegetables are in season where we have some tomatoes growing and some beans. We’ve also been doing several seedlings and have established a small mini green space, which is has been very successful. We find that with enough sunshine and good watering they are sprouting steadily. We’ve managed to sprout some peanuts, chillies and capsicum and have started planting some fresh herbs hoping that in the next few days they will sprout well. Once they get strong roots we will put them in the beds hoping that they will flourish. At this very moment, the mulberries tree is blooming with wild and fresh mulberries, which goes very well with yogurt or even ice-cream. Members have been picking them and taking them home. If you are interested in the community garden, you are most welcome to pop in and come and visit us. We are open every Thursday from 3pm to 5.30pm and we hold an educational BBQ gathering on the last Saturday of the month.
