That’s the right stuff! Congratulations to the class of 2023 and all the provincial teams who celebrated their matric results last week. From the learners who scored 100% in multiple subjects and the many more who earned distinctions, through to those who worked long hours in tough circumstances to ensure they passed … We are inspired and humbled by your effort.

In 2024 we look forward to helping South Africa’s education officials build on this success by getting maximum value from the data at your fingertips, starting with the roll-out of the upgraded Valistractor. This improved tool will make submitting data to the DDD Dashboard easier and more efficient than ever – and it rolls out from 7 February.

This is also a good time to remind yourself of the latest features available on the DDD Dashboard, all designed to help you do what you do, even better! Keep reading …

ALWAYS IMPROVING   SIMPLIFIED SUMMARIES   BETTER ENTITY VIEWS
In the seven months since we switched to the new DDD, we have implemented eight major new features and/or enhancements to improve how your data is displayed and interpreted. If you haven’t seen these already, here’s what you can look forward to using in 2024 …   The top sections of the Overview and Details pages have been simplified to reduce background calculations and improve dashboard speed. The Grade Achievement table on the Achievement page has also been streamlined to show only current and prior terms.   Sub-entity information on the Detail and Term-to-Date pages is now available in a “list” view with clickable options to expand the info for each entity. This broader “list” view is also available on the School Achievement, Learner Chart and Educator Information Reports, on the Reports page.

PI IN LEARNER CHART   FET PASS QUALITY   RECENT NSC DATA
We have enhanced the Excel download for the Learner Chart Report to include personal information (PI data) of learners, via a clearly marked PI button on the dashboard’s Reports page. This means that officials with authorised PI access can quickly and easily identify learners needing support.   FET Pass Quality (Term 3 2023 onwards) and school quintile data has been added to the Learner Information data download as well as the Learner Chart Report. Additional details (like “Learner Here Since” date and telephone codes) are also included in the learner and school contact information.   National Senior Certificate data for 2021/2 is included on the Detail page (in the top pie chart as well as in the Promotion section) – a critical reference point for setting targets and tracking year-on-year improvement. This should soon be followed by the 2023 results that were announced last week.

LEARNER ENTITY MANAGEMENT   SCHOOLS
OUTSTANDING
  AND NOW IT’S TIME
TO HIT RE-SET!
Within the next two weeks, previous year promotion status will be included in the Learner Information Report download. This is the first of many improvements to come, thanks to the new learner entity management processing capability that we’ve built. Watch this space!   We’ve made significant enhancements to the Schools Outstanding Report – now found on the Reports page with a data download option. Officials can now identify all schools in an entity (from province downwards) that have not yet submitted data for the year or term.   If any of these features aren’t showing on your version of the dashboard, then there is a simple solution! Simply re-set your view to ensure the very latest updates are visible. It’s super-simple to do – watch this 60-second clip to find out how:

Dashboard insights are only as good as the data submitted, and as January draws to a close all eyes are on Term 4 data submissions. Here’s who is leading the pack so far:

EASTERN CAPE
  LIMPOPO
  MPUMALANGA
  NORTH WEST & KZN
Eastern Cape takes top spot, with 98% of schools having submitted Term 4 data so far – 5 141 in total, representing 1,77 million learners.   Further north, Limpopo comes a close second, with 96% of Term 4 submissions completed (3 740 schools) representing 1,76 million learners.   At 88%, Mpumalanga is not far behind, taking third place with 1 586 schools having submitted Term 4 data, representing 1,03 million learners.
Finally, tied in fourth place with 85% are KwaZulu-Natal (5 228 schools and 2,43 million learners) and North West (1 340 schools and over 739 500 leaners).

Best wishes for the new year!
May 2024 be another year of data-driven education success.
