Don’t type your email address when logging in – use your DDD username, which looks like this: firstname.surname@dbedashboard.co.za. Also check that you’ve added the dot between your names, with no space or full stop at the end. |

When logging in for the first time, you need to submit a cell phone number in order to get the SMS security confirmation. Make sure you choose the SA code (+27) and not the default code (USA +1) when entering your number. Click here for tips. |

If you see a list of different Microsoft accounts to choose from, only choose the one that shows your dbedasbhboard.co.za address. Alternatively, select “other” and type it in manually. If you’re logging in for the first time, click here for tips. |

FROM THE FIELD: 5 LESSONS I WISH I’D KNOWN SOONER |
|
| |
| |
By Mr Raphael Phiri, Mgwenya Circuit Manager, Mpumalanga
As a circuit manager responsible for 28 schools and over 23 000 learners, I rely on data every day. But I’ve also learned this: having data is not the same as using it well. Here are five lessons I believe every school leader should keep in mind.
1. Don’t wait for term-end results: If you only look at performance data at the end of the term, it’s already too late. By then, the problem has grown. Schools need to check data regularly (weekly if possible) so they can act early.
2. Make data a team responsibility: Many principals struggle to access or interpret data alone. Bring in your admin and school management team. When more people can log in and work with the data, the school functions better.
3. Always verify your data: Never assume the data is correct. I’ve seen cases where what’s reported and what’s happening in classrooms don’t match. If you don’t verify your data, you are managing blindly.
4. Look beyond averages: A high pass rate can be misleading. You must dig deeper — subject by subject, skill by skill — to understand where learners are really struggling.
5. Use data to act, not just report: Data must lead to action. Identify problems, intervene early, and monitor progress. The goal is not just to know the outcome, but to change it.
Tools like the DDD Dashboard make this possible – but it’s how we use the data that makes the real difference. |

MEET THE MAN
INSPIRING SMARTER SCHOOLS |
| |
| |
In classrooms across the North West, teachers are stretched thin. Admin piles up. Data feels overwhelming. Time for real teaching slips away.
But what if the right tools could give that time back?
For Sanele Nqakwana, that question drives everything he does. By combining the Data Driven Districts (DDD) Dashboard with emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools, he is helping educators move from overload to insight, and from insight to action.
From simplifying data analysis to using AI tools like ChatGPT to design engaging lessons, his approach is changing how teachers work. What once took hours can now be done in minutes. What once felt complex is becoming practical and accessible.
And the impact goes beyond efficiency. Schools are identifying risks earlier, supporting learners more effectively, and staying connected — even in times of disruption.
Because when teachers have more time, everything changes.
Curious how data and AI are being used together to transform classrooms? Read the full story to see what’s possible. |
