Strathfield eNews No images? Click here 23 June 2022Cr Matthew Blackmore, Mayor of Strathfield The Cooks River Fun Run was an overwhelming success with 499 attendees. I won't go into what place I came in the Run, but would like to thank Cr Sandy Reddy and Cr Benjamin Cai for their competition on the day. Many residents who attended were impressed by the newly installed solar lighting along the Cooks River walking track. This lighting program is possible because of grant funding and makes it a much safer environment for our residents who regularly walk the track at dusk or in the evening. Also, a reminder to residents that the NSW Dine & Discover vouchers expire on 30 June 2022. If you do have any unclaimed vouchers, please make sure you use them up and drop into one of our local businesses and show your support. If you need help with any local issues please contact me 0428 952 095 or cr.mblackmore@strathfield.nsw.gov.au Minding Our Business Exhibition The Ironbark Gallery’s new exhibition Minding Our Business: Strathfield’s Industrial Heritage will showcase our industrial past – from brickworks to biscuits, tarpaulins to car radios and abattoirs to flour mills. THROWBACK THURSDAYStirling Henry Ltd. Harvey Norman’s head office at A1 Richmond Road Homebush West was built in 1940 for the textile manufacturers, Stirling Henry Ltd. During WWII the company supplied cotton and underwear to the armies, navies and air forces of both Australia and the USA as well as shorts, trousers, overalls, drill cloth and gauze for bandages. When Japan entered the war, the factory received 4,000 shirts and 4,000 trousers on a Saturday afternoon and dyed them jungle green over the weekend.
