The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture invite individual artists, arts educators, cultural producers, arts administrators, and creative workers; small community groups; and arts and cultural organizations of all sizes to apply to participate in Hope Corps by proposing project concepts that: - Generate career opportunities for the local creative workforce, and - Contribute to the wellbeing and resiliency of our communities, over the course of either 6 or 12 months. Hope Corps seeks to connect under- and unemployed workers in the creative industries with career opportunities—specifically through projects that meet the civic needs of our times—including: public health, mental health and healing, food security, media, journalism and storytelling, social connection and belonging, and arts education The application deadline is Monday, June 6, 2022, 5pm PST. Don't Miss GIA's Cultural Policy Public Learning Series Grantmakers in the Arts will present an 8-part national series focused on core elements of cultural policy and new approaches to advancing racial equity through policy structures. This series is open to GIA Members and the public. Each session will include 90-minutes of instruction and 30-minutes of conversation and questions with leaders in the field. Sessions will occur from June-September 2022. These sessions are open to the general public and will be archived in the GIA resource library so that the learning and access to this professional support content is wide and transparent. A new series of free creative writing workshops, hosted by TeenTix in collaboration with On the Boards, is now open for applications! In each Art Begets Art mini-workshop, you’ll attend a performance at the On the Boards, then produce a piece of creative writing in response to the performance. Mini-workshops consists of three meetings: a pre-meeting to learn about the performance you'll be seeing, the performance itself, and a post-meeting to work on your creative writing. There are three different mini-workshops, each revolving around a different performance at On the Boards. You can sign up for one, two, or all three workshops! The Confluence Project with Dr. Matthew Reynolds Dr. Reynolds, Whitman College, Art Animal Tote Bag Workshop with Nina Vichayapai Join PNW artist Nina Vichayapai in learning how to turn plain-Jane tote bags into works of art! In this workshop, participants will be given blank canvas tote bags and taught techniques in hand sewing and embroidery which can be used to customize the totes into fun and functional wearable art. All materials will be provided and all skill levels are welcome. This conversation features special guest Jessica Evotia Andrews-Hall, a Seattle based pianist & arts advocate. Jessica has interesting viewpoints about how she sees the world through her lived experience and as a professional musician in the Seattle arts community. Transgender in the United States: Challenges Faced by the Gender-Diverse and Opportunities for Cisgender Allies with Dr. Stephanie Dykes In the early decades of the 21st century, transgender persons in the United States are enjoying widespread achievements in a variety of fields. However, many gender-diverse people deal with poverty and violence on a daily basis. Recent years have seen a wave of anti-transgender legislation in states that seek to use transgender people as a wedge issue. Transgender people need the assistance of cisgender allies in order to be able to be all that they can be.
