The monthly E-News shares provincial program information and updates about the Facility Engagement program. This information will interest Medical Staff Association (MSA) support teams, but please feel free to forward the newsletter to your MSA executives as well.
Annual Review Key Activities: Priorities for Next Year
Thank you to all who have submitted your Annual Reviews (ARs), which ask MSAs to review and document engagement progress, highlights & impacts, and share plans for future collaboration. 71 of the 76 eligible MSAs have submitted their reports. As part of the report, MSAs are asked to identify the key activities and performance measures they plan to prioritize in the year ahead.
KEY ACTIVITIES: PRIORITIES FOR NEXT YEAR
MSAs continue to prioritize the foundational elements of strengthening relationships, communication, and engagement by investing in a culture of community and belonging, fostering Health Authority partnerships and collaboration, building MSA awareness and involvement to increase participation, strengthening governance and leadership, engaging in meetings and forums to discuss MSA issues, and strengthening a unified physician voice for meaningful input. These foundations work to enable priorities for system-level change.
Top system-level activities identified for 2026/27 focused on the following themes:
- Recruitment and Retention: Develop and support physician recruitment and retention activities through committees and projects designed to onboard and welcome new recruits and foster an engaging work environment.
- Group Education & Professional Growth: Support group medical education and simulation programs and events that promote ongoing professional growth, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote community-building.
- Quality Improvement Culture, Opportunities & Innovation: Build a culture of quality improvement and innovation by empowering physicians to lead projects and develop innovative solutions.
- Care Coordination: Enable care coordination and team functioning through regular, structured engagement within and between departments and teams to support planning and goal setting, enhance teamwork, resolve conflicts, improve the work environment, and drive better patient care.
- Health Systems Capacity & Availability of Resources: Engage on initiatives that strengthen health system capacity and improve the availability of key resources by identifying and addressing workflow optimization, access, infrastructure and equipment needs, service gaps, and collaborative planning.
Thank you for your hard work and commitment to furthering engagement at your MSAs. If you haven’t already, please provide feedback on the AR process through this survey. Your input is invaluable and will help us improve next year's process.
Annual Review analysis will continue to identify themes and trends from your annual reports to help us demonstrate the value of physician engagement and the impact of your work at the regional and provincial levels. The FE team will continue to support post-AR planning and activities locally and use findings to prioritize program activities, resources, and tools.

REMINDER: Facility Engagement (FE) Quality Improvement (QI) Training for FE Project Administrators
Facility Engagement (FE) is excited to be collaborating with the provincial SSC Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) team to offer MSA administrators complimentary access to PQI Level 1 training via the online Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School platform.
PQI Level 1 Core Modules take approximately 4-5 hours of self-directed learning time and include the following modules:
- QI 101: Introduction to Health Care Improvement
- QI 102: How to Improve with the Model for Improvement
- QI 103: Testing and Measuring Changes with PDSA Cycles
Please refer back to the June e-News for full information and note that all modules need to be completed by April 30, 2027.

Update: Specialist Services Committee (SSC) Facility Engagement Working Group (FEWG)
The SSC FEWG consists of one health authority and one Doctors of BC physician representative from each of the 5 health authority regions, as well as one Ministry of Health and one Doctors of BC physician co-chair. It provides provincial oversight and governance for the FE initiative.
To keep you informed about what is happening at the provincial level to better support your work and strategic decision-making, see here for a summary of the most recent SSC FEWG meeting in June 2026.
These summaries are publicly available on the FE website and can be shared with the MSA you support as relevant.

FEMS Tip of the Month
As we just completed the end of quarter one of the fiscal year on June 30, now is a good time to start reviewing engagement projects in FEMS to gauge spending rates and remind physicians to complete all sessionals and expenses for the past three months.
Our budgeting throughout the year resource on the FE website will help guide you through the common steps and processes of quarterly financial and budget management.

PM Helpdesk Lunch and Learn Library
We’re excited that the FE provincial office and PM Helpdesk Consultant Erica Kjekstad have developed a comprehensive library document featuring all MSA Lunch and Learn sessions from 2022 through 2026. The links are on the e-News and Lunch and Learns tab on the FE website.
Lunch and Learns are now on the annual summer hiatus and will return in September.
