Enjoy, COVERSATIONS LAUREN MCNAMARA | ASSOCIATE EDITOR AT MUMBRELLA Lauren McNamara talks about getting into Journalism at Mumbrella "I always knew I wanted to be a journalist. One of my most vivid memories from my childhood was attending a friend’s 10th birthday party and the theme was to dress as what you want to be when you’re older - and I went as a journalist. I rocked an ‘old-school journalist’ business-casual look with a briefcase, fedora, pen and paper, and all. Kind of lame, I know." RECENT WORKS FROM OUR CREATIVE DIRECTORY MEMBERS NICK EDLIN | GRAPHIC DESIGNER Wildcard Branding "TLA are Australia's leading sports marketing, media, technology and talent agency. When they wanted to enter the creative space they approached NED to design the identity for this offshoot and Wildcard was born. Wildcard have their own internal design team so the goal was to create a range of assets that gave their internal team the toolbox with which to roll-out the identity across a range of touchpoints." FRANCES ANDRIJICH | PHOTOGRAPHER WA Ballet Early this year we welcomed David Mcallister, the longest-serving Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet. I loved working with the brilliant David and superb rehearsal director Leanne Stojmenov on this shoot. Images for WA Ballet and their corporate partner EY. This team was a dream to work with thanks to Steph and Leanne for your help. CELIA FURT/CAPTURING | PHOTOGRAPHER Caldermeade Farm From Above I started with the cows getting milked. Filming them was easy and fun. They weren’t deterred by the drone, they didn’t care, instead they were intrigued so they had their eyes on me going ‘Who the hell is she?’ ‘What is she doing here?” ‘What the hell is that thing that flies?’ ‘Is it a bird? But why does it make so much noise?’ After the milking madness, I set up to film all the farm: the infrastructure, the animals and the fields. As it was summer the very early intensity of the sunlight made certain shots hard to do. So, I went for top downs and avoided as much possible to shoot straight into the sunlight. First, I focused on the shots from the point of view of a driver who enters the farm from the highway. Then, I focused on the shots where the drone was opposite to the sun, from the POV of a driver leaving the farm. For four hours, I played with the light, lines, directions and heights and had a lot of fun filming the property from every possible angle. Then, I sat down with P to show him all the footage, with which he was very happy. When I came back home, I uploaded all the footage onto the ASN Media portal for them to edit. It took 8 hours! When the video was released, I couldn’t be prouder to see what footage was selected for the overall story, and how good it looked! ‘The Caldermeade Farm From Above’ is a 1mn visual story I created using only some of my footage. To enhance the dramatic feeling I added some cinematic and intense music: Closure by Briana Tam. PRINT 2 METAL | PRINTER Print 2 Metal's New Website & Award! NEW MEMBERS MICHAEL MALHERBE | PHOTOGRAPHER I began as an agency art director and when shooting campaigns, I worked with the best photographers around. As a keen amateur myself, I watched closely. I was interested and learned a lot. So when an opportunity to shoot my own campaign came along. I jumped at it. And here I am, over a decade later, doing the thing I love. Most of my work comes from ad agencies for clients like Telstra, Westpac, and many more. I shoot a lot of TVC stills, people, lifestyle, and studio work. I’m also working on a food portfolio as well. The art director in me ‘gets’ ideas, brands, layouts, deadlines – the whole advertising process, end to end. But the photographer in me loves that instant of ‘getting the shot’. Pretty addictive. TESTIMONIALS DAMIEN HASHEMI | GRAPHIC DESIGNER What Damien had to say about Sally helping him to find the full-time role he is in now... "What can I say about Sally? She's fierce, formidable, empathetic, funny and works tirelessly to help you out. She's different to the recruiters i've worked with. With them I always feel they're looking for a square peg for a square role. However Sally found me a role with a business who weren't initially looking for someone like me. And she opened the door and persuaded them to think differently. Now I have a role with real opportunities for growth. Up until then i'd been out of work a long time and in this market it was a struggle. I have Sally to thank for not only finding me work, but a gig which Im really excited about, and I haven't been able to say that for a loooooooong time." ANDE CROSSAN | DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT What Ande had to say about Sally helping her to find the full-time role she is in now... "Sally has now placed me three times, and each time feels like hitting the job jackpot. The latest role? One I wouldn’t have considered if she hadn't convinced me I’d be perfect for it and then sweet-talked the owner into meeting me. And she was right, of course. I also recently sought out Sal to recruit a new team member. She listened to my requirements, thought outside the box and delivered. Needless to say, the position is now filled, and I couldn’t be happier. Sally really is like the Cupid of careers!"
