Strathfield Girls High School has not only been a cornerstone of our educational landscape but has also played a vital role in shaping the lives and future of hundreds of women in our local government area. Nurturing talents, fostering leadership and empowering our young women to give them the confidence to know they can achieve anything they put their minds to. Congratulations to Principal Michel Pikkoulas OAM, school executive, teachers, staff and wonderful former and current students at this fabulous school. We are also approaching the season when our Year 12 students have graduated and are embarking on the final three weeks before the start of the Highter School Certificate and IB Certificate exams. On behalf of Councillors and Council staff, our thoughts are with you, and we extend our well wishes for your future, and for the exciting next phase of your life. Residents, you will notice many operational services being carried out by our Parks team. New spring plants were planted in Strathfield Square, winter/summer preparations completed, and 4 new trees were planted in Bowden Reserve. Grass and lawn maintenance has continued in Crane Street Reserve, Cave Road Reserve, Cosgrove Reserve, Airey Park and our beautiful rose bushes will be in full bloom in Wallis Reserve in the month of October. Also, a big thank you to our roads and traffic team that have started marking out areas for new capital projects, upgrading our footpaths, and keeping our street signage up to date and easier to read. We have a wonderful team here in Strathfield keeping all areas of our local government area safe and beautiful. As the weather is starting to warm up, please stay safe, a message from the Cancer Council - slip (wear a cover up), slop (apply sunscreen), slap (put on a hat), seek (stay under shelter) and slide (wear sunglasses). The Tenth Milestone from Sydney marked the halfway point between Sydney and Liverpool and stood roughly where Glover Street Greenacre is now located. This 1859 map shows the milestone marked alongside the property of James Reilly (or Rielly). Roberts and Waterloo Roads are visible. Newspapers often mentioned the hill as a landmark and the milestone was a popular spot for the start and finish of cycling races during the 1920s and 1930s. Detail from 1859 map of Bark Huts Estate.
