Over 200 residents attended our ANZAC Service, which is a true testament to the ANZAC spirit. I would like to extend my thanks to my fellow Councillors, General Manager Michael Mamo, Council Directors, officers and staff who worked tirelessly to make our service memorable. I wish to acknowledge the contribution of our local school students for their attendance and being an integral part of the ceremony. Congratulations to Xavier Khoury from St Patrick’s College, for his winning poem in our Anzac Day Poetry Competition. Our School Principals and teachers play a vital role in educating our students about the importance of ANZAC Day and the sacrifices made by our ANZACs. It’s an important part of our history we should remember. Thank you to you all. On behalf of Council, I wish to extend our appreciation to Cumberland RSL sub-branch for their ongoing support and commitment to our community. Their tireless efforts, to honor our ANZACs and support our current servicemen and women are truly remarkable. Just a friendly reminder the Strathfield Festival kicks off tonight! THROWBACK THURSDAYEnfield Council Chambers and War Memorial, 1934 This photo was taken on 2 October 1934 on the corner of Liverpool Road and Coronation Parade (once Punchbowl Road). On the right are the Enfield Council Chambers, opened in 1930 and the War Memorial, a gift of Mayor Ebenezer Ford and his wife, unveiled in 1924. These landmarks have changed little in 89 years. Tram tracks run alongside the Council Chambers and the two-lane road is now six lanes. A few cars, carts and bicycles share the quiet road. In the distance, on the left, is the spire of St Thomas’ Church, no longer visible from this point today. Corner Punchbowl and Liverpool Roads, Enfield 2 October 1934.
