Dear friend, Portland has faced numerous challenges since the pandemic, including a significant rise in houselessness and the financial strain of the rising cost of living. At Lift UP, we are committed to being part of the solution. Our work supports housing stability through robust food access initiatives for our neighbors in Downtown and Northwest Portland—ultimately creating a food-secure heart of Portland. One of our flagship programs, Adopt a Building, provides comprehensive food security programs to residents of nearly 50 buildings in Downtown and NW Portland. Among these, 30 buildings are "Adopted," meaning they receive our full suite of services: Delivered Food Boxes, Emergency Food Closets, and Supper Club (cooking and nutrition education classes). This program ensures that 3,498 residents have direct access to food on-site, thanks to the collective support of families, foundations, businesses, and faith communities. Lease Crutcher Lewis (LCL), a cornerstone of our community, has been an Adopter nearly eight years. Last year, their generous support provided:
LCL's commitment goes beyond financial contributions. Their employees also volunteer to help with the monthly delivery of food to their neighbors. Ben McLean, an employee of LCL, shared,“Giving back to the communities we work and live in is built into our company culture. Our involvement with Lift UP reflects our vision and values. There is no more basic need than food. We all need quality food to live and thrive. I volunteer because I have experienced hunger and know the impact of charity during hard times.” *Amy, Rosenbaum Plaza resident, emphasizes the impact of Lift UP services: “The Delivered Food box from Lift UP helps a lot. Toward the end of the month, I start getting low on food and with the vegetables and things that you send I can make a delicious meal.” The gratitude expressed by residents like Amy resonates deeply with us and our partners. At Lift UP, we are grateful to LCL, a company that not only focuses on constructing quality buildings but also makes a significant effort to build up their community by championing food security for their neighbors.
