![]() ![]() Thank you for continuing to stay up-to-date with NDIS Worker Screening in Western Australia. We encourage you to share this newsletter with your colleagues and they may also choose to subscribe. ![]() ![]() The NDIS Check can be used to help self and plan managed NDIS participants determine if those who deliver their supports and services are an unacceptable risk of harm. If you, or someone you know, is a self or plan managed participant, we encourage you to ask the workers to hold a valid NDIS Check by following these steps:
For more information about the NDIS Check and self-managed participants, watch our video: ![]() ![]() Our Customer Support Team has noticed an increase in NDIS Check applicants in paid employment who apply for work as volunteers or unpaid workers and incorrectly accessing the subsidised fee. Providing false information to the Screening Unit is an offence under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Worker Screening) Act 2020 (the Act) and penalties apply. Applicants who apply using the incorrect fee will be asked to pay the balance and it may delay the application process. To support your workers compliance under the Act, we encourage you to remind NDIS Check applicants to nominate the appropriate employment type on the application form and pay the corresponding prescribed fee. Current application fees for an NDIS Check are:
![]() ![]() We have an incident to report about a worker, how do we do this? Reportable incidents must be reported to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission through the NDIS Commission Portal. The NDIS Commission will determine if the information is relevant to the Screening Unit and pass it on for consideration of a risk assessment. More information about reportable incidents can be found on the NDIS Commission's website: Managing and reporting incidents If you believe an offence has occurred, you should contact the Police. The Screening Unit will be notified if an NDIS Check clearance holder has a change in their criminal record through our ongoing monitoring system. What are workers obligations when they hold an NDIS Check? Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Worker Screening) Act 2020, applicants and NDIS Check holders must notify the Screening Unit if there is a change in their personal particulars by updating their DoTDirect account. This includes their residential address, contact information or NDIS employer. If a worker has changed their legal name or has had a relevant change in their criminal record, they must notify the Screening Unit by emailing NDISCheck@communities.wa.gov.au It is important workers have their contact details up-to-date with the Screening Unit, as we will send renewal reminder notices to NDIS Check holders before their clearance expires. More information on NDIS Check renewals will be available later this year. For a step-by-step guide on how to update details, please see our video: I am a sole trader, how do I get an NDIS Check? Similar to NDIS participants, you will need to gain access to the NWSD by contacting the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on 1800 035 544. Once you have obtained an Employer ID number, you can apply for an NDIS Check and verify your application in the NWSD. Have an NDIS Check question you would like answered? You can submit your questions by emailing NDISCheck@communities.wa.gov.au. We are happy to help where we can, although we may need to refer you to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for matters that fall under their jurisdiction. ![]() ![]() An NDIS Worker Screening clearance letter should not be relied on as proof of a valid check. Why? An NDIS Check holder is subject to ongoing monitoring for five years and the status of their clearance can change at any time if relevant information is received. To check the validity of an NDIS Check, providers need to ensure they are linking their workers in the NWSD. This ensures you will be notified of any changes in worker screening statuses, including expiries, and if workers are eligible to work. For a step-by-step guide on linking workers, please see: ![]() ![]() Our Customer Support Team and Community Engagement Team will be attending these upcoming events this year:
We will be there to meet you in person and answer any of your NIDS Check questions. If you would like us to attend your upcoming event, email us at: NDISCheck@communities.wa.gov.au ![]() ![]() The Department of Communities acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
