Dear Students,
We hope you are doing well in the midst of midterm season. As we approach Halloween Weekend, we write to provide you with a few safety reminders and to reinforce our expectations for your conduct during this holiday.
The Superintendent of the Boston Police Department has issued a letter to all colleges and universities in the city. We encourage you to read the letter which can be found here. A few of the important reminders in the Superintendent’s letter include:
Alcohol
consumption by anyone under the age of 21 is an arrestable offense, as is providing alcohol to anyone under the age of 21
Drinking in public, regardless of your age, is an arrestable offense
Boston Police patrols around college campuses will be increased during Halloween weekend
In general, here are some helpful reminders about
how to have a safe Halloween weekend:
If you choose to dress up, please continue to wear your cloth or paper mask in areas where they are required – a Halloween mask is not a substitute for these more effective masks
Limit the number of people you are with at any one given time
Stay outdoors as much as possible and avoid crowded areas – including living rooms and basements
Please do not carry fake weapons - possession of a device that could be reasonably mistaken for a weapon (such as a toy gun, starter gun, or theatrical prop) is prohibited on campus
If you choose to dress up, please choose to dress with respect
In order to help celebrate the holiday, there are several activities on campus this weekend. Below are just a few of the highlights:
CAB’s Monster Mash – Friday, October 29 – 8 p.m. - Connell Recreation Center
UGBC’s BC Football
Game Watch – Saturday, October 30 – 3:30 p.m. - Hillside Cafe - BC After Dark (Alcohol service begins at 4:00 p.m.)
RHA’s Spooky Skate – Saturday, October 30 – 9-11p.m. - Conte Forum
As always, we encourage you to reflect on how your actions this weekend may impact you and others as we strive towards a successful ending of our semester. Attending and hosting large indoor gatherings and parties with people in close proximity and without masks are still considered risky behaviors for spreading the
virus.
The Boston Police and Boston College officials will again be monitoring the neighborhoods this weekend to help ensure everyone’s safety.
We wish you a safe and healthy weekend.
Sincerely,
George Arey
