Welcome to this fortnight's edition of Connecting Our Community! With Queensland Youth Week (11-19 April 2026) just around the corner, this edition highlights local events and other opportunities that celebrate young people and support connection, wellbeing and participation across Logan. You’ll also find our usual mix of funding opportunities, community events and helpful resources to support local organisations and residents to get involved, learn and connect. Community storiesBuilding a bright future for the Logan community A new community and economic hub is coming to Logan! Led by SSI in partnership with the Queensland Government, the Logan Hub will bring together jobs support, training, business opportunities and community services in one welcoming location for the Logan community. Logan City Council is supporting the project by sharing local insight and helping ensure the processes and approvals are in place so the Hub can deliver benefits for the Logan community.
Opportunities and resourcesYouth Matters Conference 2026 The Youth Matters Conference is a youth‑led space where multicultural young people come together to share ideas, showcase projects and explore issues that matter to them. It’s a great chance for young Logan residents aged 18-30 to represent their community, connect with decision‑makers and turn ideas into action. Those with a project or initiative to share can apply to showcase their work. Community leaders, organisations and decision makers are invited to attend to hear innovative ideas directly from young people leading change. Help shape more inclusive sport and physical activity A Griffith University researcher is inviting women, girls and non‑binary people with disability to share their experiences of sport and physical activity, regardless of how much sport they do or do not play. The survey explores what helps or hinders participation, including experiences at gyms, sporting venues and community programs. Insights from the survey will help inform future priorities for accessibility and inclusion. QCOSS 2026 Town Halls: Logan QCOSS is hosting a Logan Town Hall to hear directly from community organisations, frontline workers and sector partners about the issues impacting the region. The session will share local data, explore emerging challenges and provide space for participants to contribute to QCOSS advocacy priorities. Feedback from town halls helps shape statewide advocacy and has previously informed outcomes such as social housing investment and cost‑of‑living support. How to do Strategic Planning - online workshop Community organisations are invited to take part in How to do Strategic Planning, a practical and interactive online workshop hosted by the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland. Designed for multicultural community organisations, this session explores simple, jargon‑free approaches to strategic planning that support clearer goals, stronger leadership and long‑term sustainability. Participants will gain practical tools, guided activities and a starting point for developing a useful strategic plan they can apply straight away. When: Wednesday 15 April, 6:00

Sizzle for Change 🌭 Vegan Australia’s Sizzle for Change campaign supports community groups, schools, sporting clubs and not‑for‑profits to run BBQ fundraisers or educational events using vegan sausages. The program aims to normalise animal‑free alternatives in a familiar setting and help organisations raise funds, with grants available to cover the cost of vegan sausages (up to $500 per event).
Community events🎪 Carnival Open Day at Hillcrest BEST Disability Support is celebrating the launch of its new Hillcrest Campus with a Carnival Open Day for the whole community. The day will be filled with carnival fun, live entertainment and hands‑on experiences, offering a great opportunity to meet the BEST team and explore some of the programs on offer. You can enjoy carnival food, games and prizes, arts and crafts, karaoke, music performances, a dunk tank, basketball challenge and more. When: Saturday 18 April, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Creative Kids Market Got a creative kid at home who loves making things? The Creative Kids Market is back in Yarrabilba, giving young makers the chance to run their own stall, sell handmade goodies and learn about small business in a fun, supportive setting. Families are invited to come along, support local young entrepreneurs and pick up something special ahead of Mother’s Day. The popular Market Money initiative will also return, giving lucky shoppers money to spend at the kids’ stalls. PCYC's Colour Xplosion Fun Run is back for Youth Week 🏃➡️🎨 PCYC Crestmead’s much‑loved Colour Xplosion is back and brighter than ever! This free, family‑friendly colour run invites kids and young people to get active, have fun and get wildly colourful in a safe outdoor setting. Participants can enjoy a free sausage sizzle, Zooper Doopers and plenty of colour‑splashed fun. Registration is required, so families are encouraged to book a spot early. Logan Youth Shine Event ✨ Logan Youth Shine Event is a free community celebration for young people, packed with fun, connection and creativity. Enjoy live entertainment including special performances by DJ Trent, Yo Fitzy and Bede, along with games, giveaways, food, drinks, stalls and sports activities such as UBall! Young people are encouraged to hang out, get involved, and shine with their community. When: Wednesday 15 April, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Applications are now open for Round 2 of the Women’s Career Grants program. Funded by the Qld Government and administered by Future Women, this program provides grants of up to $4,999 to support women in Queensland to re‑enter the workforce after a break. Funding can be used for eligible costs such as training, workwear, technology, childcare and job‑readiness support. Eligible individuals are encouraged to apply. Applications close: 11:59 pm, 30 June 2026 Applications are now open for Skilling Queenslanders for Work funding for community organisations. Funded by the Qld Government, this program supports eligible not‑for‑profit community organisations to deliver local training and employment projects for unemployed and underemployed Queenslanders. Funding supports projects that help people build skills, gain qualifications and move into work, with a focus on priority groups across Queensland. Applications close: 7 May 2026 Applications are now open for Round 17 of the Building Digital Skills Grants 2024-2028. Delivered by Good Things Australia as part of the Be Connected program, this funding supports eligible community organisations to run free digital skills programs for people aged 50 and over. Grants can be used to deliver group or one‑on‑one mentoring that helps older people build confidence using technology and stay connected online. Applications close: 11:45 pm 1 May 2026 Applications are now open for the Westpac Foundation Better Futures Grant. This grant supports eligible not‑for‑profit organisations working with primary school‑aged children (5-12 years) experiencing education disadvantage, with priority given to children from low socio‑economic backgrounds, First Nations communities and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with a focus on strengthening learning outcomes and reducing barriers to education. Register for the online information session on Thursday 9 April at 2:30pm to learn more about the grant, and ask any questions in an interactive Q&A. Applications close: 24 April 2026 Applications are now open for Queensland Child Protection Week Grants. These grants support community‑led events and activities held during Queensland Child Protection Week (6-12 September 2026) that promote child safety and wellbeing. Funding is available for local organisations to deliver family‑friendly events, creative projects or awareness activities that align with the theme Protecting children is everybody’s business. Community groups and non‑government organisations across Queensland are encouraged to apply. Applications close: 15 May 2026 Expressions of interest will open soon for the 2025-26 Volunteer Grants Round, funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Social Services. Grants of $1,000 to $5,000 will support not‑for‑profit community organisations that rely on volunteers, helping remove barriers to volunteering and strengthen volunteer‑led activities. Funding can be used for items such as insurance, communication tools or equipment that supports volunteers. Organisations are advised to read the Grant Opportunity Guidelines and contact their local Federal MP for details on how to submit an expression of interest We hope you find the information in our e-newsletter useful.
