Nature's Dance of Seasonal Change

Hello dear,

This transition from summer to fall, from Pitta dominance to now Vata dominance, coming up gradually with nature’s dance of seasonal change, with increasing and sometimes sudden cold winds, fresh and insightful revelations of nature, knee-jerk decisions for immediate gratifications, and the sheer joy of spontaneous laughter, all showing moments of increasing Vata influence along with a diminishing Pitta trend.

Observing subtle planetary changes and practicing daily preventative rituals, can help stabilize the mind during this cycle, which inevitably brings contraction, following the effulgence of summer, now gradually cooling, and heading towards cold in the northern hemisphere.

Adaptation to change is a key factor in maintaining balance according to Ayurveda.

This newsletter issue is to help keep you up to date with various opportunities you may not otherwise hear about, within the Ayurveda community.

For example, Michele Schultz is an expert Ayurveda Practitioner and Chef living in southern France.  Her new manuscript on Ayurveda Breakfasts is in French, and she needs a volunteer to help with self-publishing and translation.

BOOK REVIEW

I’m so excited and inspired to share about this upcoming little book and feel so keen to include it in this newsletter forum.

The book answers the oh-so-common question, ‘What shall I have for breakfast now that I’m following Ayurveda’?

First, I hesitated because it’s written in French by my dear colleague and friend Michele Schulz, Ayurveda chef, nutritionist, author and foodie, knowing most readers of this newsletter are not French speakers.

However, it’s such an excellent book that I’m sharing here about it, tentatively titled, ‘Breakfasts, Brunches and Beyond’.

Two reasons to share this good news with you now, as compared to waiting until it’s published in English, is to request help for Publishing or Self-Publishing in French and Translation to English.

If you can help support this gifted author to get this book into the hands that need it, please contact: micheleschulz@gmail.com

PANCHAKARMA IN INDIA 2023

Our program is full for this year, however, some were disappointed to miss the early deadline and find that all accommodation is allocated for the season, until the new year at present.

So, to be hosted by me for 2024, kindly consider the importance of planning early.

All participants this year are returning from previous groups I’ve hosted, an affirmation of the value of my supervision and support.

We all go under other doctors, and I also undergo my own Panchakarma program, with the various ups and downs of the process.

Weather in November and December is ideal for Westerners to travel to south India because of consistent, warm temperatures.  In Jan. and Feb., when the temperatures increase, visitors have more challenges accordingly.

If you have been following your Ayurveda program and you’re serious about coming next year, please join my waitlist by emailing me at jaisri@ayurveda-seminars.com

If you have questions, kindly call me at 604-290-8201 Pacific time Mon – Thurs 9 am-5 pm

CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE OF AYURVEDA IN THE WEST

Check out the new film, ‘The Natural Law’, a term coined by Dr. Lad and introducing the real-life experience of producer Amish Shah.

Amish’s health had bottomed out, along with peaking early in his career, and led to his discovery and gradual integration of Ayurveda in his life, and his family’s life.

Several years in the making, this project was delayed by Amish’s health crises time and again, though his story and expert description of his journey show his search away from Western lifestyle values, and back to his roots of Ayurveda.

If you’d like to watch The Natural Law, remember you can still do so here throughout the online viewing period.

I find it’s a game-changer for Western culture to have access to this well-crafted film.

I feel it will add to the short list of excellent Ayurveda movies now available in the West, created by artists like Pan Nalin, Gita Desai, and Jeremy Frindel, among others.

I’d love to receive your feedback about this recent film release, or any Ayurveda-related films.

CANADA AYURVEDA RESEARCH & EDUCATION FOUNDATION

FEATURE: JODI GRIFFITH

Jodi came into the Breakthrough to Self-Empowerment Ayurveda Mentorship Group in the fall of 2022 and has responded to our Summer 2023 call for volunteers interested in helping the Canada Ayurveda Research & Education (C.A.R.E) Foundation in 4 key research and development areas:

  • To develop an Ayurveda Elder home Care-Aide Training Program
  • To further develop the Ayurveda Self-Care for Multiple Sclerosis Program
  • To create an Internet Portal for Ayurveda Research Worldwide
  • To research local indigenous medicinal herbal classifications according to Ayurveda

Jodi has come forward to assist with research and writing grant proposals for our Ayurveda Classification of Medicinal Plants.

Herbal plants are part of what brought Jodi to Ayurveda.  Jodi Griffith was introduced to the medicinal properties of native prairie plants when she had the opportunity to work at the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve in Tolstoy, Manitoba.

After that, she graduated with a biology honours degree focused on forest ecology and botany and then a Master of Environment (M. Env.) focused on forest policy and governance.  During her master’s research, she was contracted as a research assistant on a joint project between the University College of the North (UCN) in the past, Manitoba and Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC.

The aim of this project was to understand and evaluate the impact and constraints of an organized effort to improve rural livelihood through the development of the Northern Forest Diversification Centre (NFDC), a unique organization dedicated to working with indigenous people to develop and promote Non-Timber Forest products (NTFP) trade in Northern Manitoba.

UPDATE:

Following my nomination last spring by my dear colleague, Ms. Micheline Wong, P.T., for the prestigious Dr. Rogers’ Prize for Integrative and Alternative Medicine, and the intense application process to put Ayurveda in the running, it’s now a waiting game until the Gala Dinner scheduled for Sept. 21 at the Sheraton Wall Hotel in Vancouver, BC.  The announcement is to be kept top-secret until then.

Thanks for all your support for our application, and for sharing the anticipation with us.

To win the prize means we can move ahead with hiring our Coordinator for the Ayurveda Elder Home-Care Aide Training program and complete the Multiple Sclerosis & Ayurveda program.

Check out the website here and see its development since our Share Ayurveda Conference in June 2022!
