Improving English At Your Own PaceLearning English is a challenge, especially as an adult fluent in another language. The rules, the differences in use and pronunciation between English speaking nations, can add to the difficulty of learning English. The good news is your library can help! We have three online platforms you can use for FREE with your library card, as well as conversation classes in several of our libraries. Road to IELTS If you want permanent residency in Australia, to gain employment in government or go to university – then you will likely need to pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Road to IELTS aims to help teach students the English language skills they need to do this. Living in Australia Living in Australia teaches English in every day life in Australia. It’s about the conversations you will have at the shops, in the community, but it progresses to more complicated interactions, including interviews and forms. You can do this all at your own pace. World Wide English World Wide English also teaches daily English skills, but without the Australian emphasis. Starting with basic conversations, it progresses far more than Living in Australia, and includes event and ticketing, food customs, travel and on to humour. You can do this all at your own pace. Get started here. In person, we have conversation classes at our libraries and all are welcome to join these casual event. Find out more. If you're time poor, check out these tips about how to listen carefully when learning English, and take your skills to the next level. Find out more.
