Staff meStaff member Suzie delivering donations from Doveton Library to the Casey North Community Information and support service

Thank you!

Welcome to 2023... well almost. What a year it has been!  I'd like to say thank you for your support in 2022 and we know your support of our services will continue into 2023 and beyond.

THANK YOU - We know you love your library service... more than 700 suggestions came through for the "Name your Library" Competition and we were blown away. The winner of the Gift Card has been contacted and was thrilled and we are now in the process of working out what your local library service will be called. Stay tuned for an announcement early 2023!

THANK YOU  - Deliver Joy our Christmas campaign has been a roaring success, so far more than $8000 worth of non perishable food and toiletries as been donated for our local charities. Donations are still coming in so we will update you on social media early in the new year with the total numbers.

THANK YOU - The Sid the Sloth Membership Drive was very well received. Our Children's and Youth team visited many local kindergartens, child care centres and schools over the year and through this campaign 7600 kids joined the library. We gave away a prize every month to celebrate too.

Our wonderful community is the heartbeat of our libraries. Make sure you drop in over the holidays and utilise the wonderful spaces and services we offer.. all for FREE and take note of the Summer Holiday Hours. Return Chutes at all libraries are open 24/7.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy Summer Holidays.

Members of a book group at Casey Cardinia Libraries

Book Groups

If you like chatting about books with like minded readers, have you thought about joining a book group?

Book Group members may work together, live in the same area or be a group of friends who have known each other for years.

Each month the members of the group read a different book, trying new authors and styles of writing.

Rather than going to the added expense of buying a new book each month, Book Groups can borrow group sets from their local library.

A large collection of book sets are available from the library. Each set has 10 copies of the same title plus a comprehensive folder of discussion notes.

Most of the titles in this collection are recent releases and about a third have Australian authors or settings.

Libraries Victoria Update

Public Libraries Victoria has recently been working through a tender process for a new courier together with the Victorian State Government.

This process is ongoing and so Intralibrary and Interlibrary loans via Libraries Victoria network will remain paused until at least February 2023.

Casey Cardinia Libraries will continue to have a shared arrangement with Myli - My Community Library to make available stock in each service to members.

This arrangement is not affected by the pause.

Attendees at a conversation class in Casey Cardinia Libraries

Improving English At Your Own Pace

Learning English is a challenge, especially as an adult fluent in another language. The rules, the differences in use and pronunciation between English speaking nations, can add to the difficulty of learning English.

The good news is your library can help! We have three online platforms you can use for FREE with your library card, as well as conversation classes in several of our libraries.

Road to IELTS

If you want permanent residency in Australia, to gain employment in government or go to university – then you will likely need to pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).   Road to IELTS aims to help teach students the English language skills they need to do this.
Get started here.

Living in Australia

Living in Australia teaches English in every day life in Australia.  It’s about the conversations you will have at the shops, in the community, but it progresses to more complicated interactions, including interviews and forms.  You can do this all at your own pace.
Get started here.

World Wide English

World Wide English also teaches daily English skills, but without the Australian emphasis.  Starting with basic conversations, it progresses far more than Living in Australia, and includes event and ticketing, food customs, travel and on to humour.  You can do this all at your own pace. Get started here.

In person, we have conversation classes at our libraries and all are welcome to join these casual event. Find out more.

If you're time poor, check out these tips about how to listen carefully when learning English, and take your skills to the next level. Find out more.
