Throwback Thursday Aerodome 89 Abbotsford Road, Homebush House names are fascinating. When this house was built for Cassie and Ernest Lundie, by Cassie’s uncle, A.E. Gazzard in c.1923, it was given the somewhat unusual name of Aerodome. Cassie’s brother, William (Billy) Ewart Hart, was Australia’s first licensed pilot and on 30 November 1911 Cassie became the first Australian-born lady to fly with an Australian pilot when she bravely went for a spin in Billy’s biplane at Victoria Park Racecourse in Zetland. The flight received press coverage as far away as Western Australia. The Lundies sold the home in 1928 to Sidney Thompson who renamed it Widgewong.
