Compensation Matters - December 2025

Kaya reader,

It’s hard to believe we’re already closing the chapter on another remarkable year.

2025 has been filled with milestones and achievements - our Conference brought fresh insights and connections to over 600 industry professionals, new publications for General Practitioners reinforced best practice processes when treating injured workers, and refreshed online training courses opened new doors for learning and development within the scheme.

The year also brought with it a packed schedule of regional engagement initiatives that will be continuing into 2026 and beyond.

All that considered, it’s clear this year has been all about amplifying our impact through innovative and modernised dispute resolution and regulatory practice.

And there's even more excitement to come, with new initiatives, resources, and engagement opportunities set for 2026.

Wishing you a safe, restful festive season. See you in the new year!

National Research Survey

Researchers from Monash University and the University of Melbourne are currently conducting a national study on workers compensation systems across Australia, as part of the Workers' Voice Project.

The survey aims to:

  • Consolidate expert perspectives on how workers compensation systems function across States and Territories.
  • Identify areas where systems can be strengthened or made more consistent.
  • Support the development of consumer and evidence-informed tools for research and policy.

Contributing to the survey will assist with validating the computational model of workers compensation that has been developed through the Workers' Voice Project.

Stay tuned for a Perth-based event in early 2026 that will unpack the National Standards and discuss how they can be implemented in to uplift capability and improve service outcomes.

Compliance in
Carnarvon

Regional compliance was in the spotlight this November, with our Inspectors conducting 47 site visits in Carnarvon and across the Gascoyne.

A major focus was the compliance of labour hire businesses in connection with recent prosecution outcomes.

Our inspectors also visited local insurance brokers to provide education and reinforce regulatory expectations.

Asbestos Memorial Service

On 28 November, we were honoured to join the Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia for their 30th Ecumenical Memorial Service.

Culture corner

It’s the season of giving, and this year we got into the holiday spirit by organising a donation drive for Street Friends WA through November.

On 1 December, our Mandi Mart (youth action group) delivered, sorted and packed essentials for Street Friends WA’s Thursday night outreach.
