What to do if you re-export wine to the European Union

When creating a product...

1. Under the General Information section, select the appropriate European Union wine category.

2. Under the Declaration section, read and select ‘Declare for European Union’, if relevant to your product.

3. Add the ingredients for bulk and de-alcoholised wine, if required.

Note: not all bulk and de-alcoholised wine has this requirement.
Refer to the European Union Wine OMAR for further information.

4. Under the Processes section, add the Chemistry process. You will need to select the chemistry test that matches your wine.

Complete the remaining chemistry test fields and send your wine sample for testing.

5. Under the Processes section, add the Winemaking process. Add the required details and request a winemaker WSMP confirmation.

The WSMP confirmer must confirm that the details and declarations provided the wine meets the European Union market requirements.

Note: if you then make changes to the product, you may need to request a winemaker WSMP confirmation again.

6. Under the Products section, select your product(s) by searching the drop-down list.

Ensure you add the CN code for the product.

7. At this stage you will be able to see if your product is eligible for the European Union in the Eligibility status table at the very top of each product you have added.

Your product will be eligible for the European Union once you have met all General market eligibility requirements and you have:

• Completed all European Union eligibility steps on the product.
   
• Received the chemistry test results back and they are showing as ‘Pass’ in the Chemistry process section.
   
• Received the winemaking WSMP confirmation for your product confirming that it meets European Union market requirements.

When requesting a VI-1 document...

8. Request a VI-1 document which is required for the re-export of wine to the European Union by emailing MPI at tradecertification@mpi.govt.nz with the certificate number and the products within the consignment that you require VI-1 documents for.

Note: you can request the VI-1 document after the wine has been exported, however it needs to have been eligible for export to the European Union when the consignment request was approved.

When replacing a VI-1 document...

9. Request a replacement VI-1 document, if there has been a change to the consignment request, for example:

• date of shipping or a change of quantity.
   
• if the eligibility of the product has changed - the product was not eligible for the European Union, and it becomes eligible before the date of export.
