COMMUNITY UPDATE Update from Citizen of the Year – Mr. Akhil Verma Over the past few months, it’s been an absolute honour—and a whole lot of fun—to represent our incredible community as Strathfield’s Citizen of the Year. I’ve had the chance to take part in several fantastic events organised by Strathfield Council, and I’m excited to share a few highlights with you. In March, I joined the Seniors Week Morning Tea, and let me tell you—our local seniors know how to throw a great party! There was warmth, wisdom, and a lot of good laughs. The Strathfield Choir stole the show with a beautiful performance. It was a great reminder that community spirit only gets stronger with age. Later that month, I attended a Citizenship Ceremony, where we officially welcomed some brand-new Aussies into the Strathfield family. Watching the pride and joy on their faces was genuinely moving. It was a beautiful moment to reflect on what it means to belong and to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures that make our area so vibrant.. In April, I joined fellow residents in paying tribute to our fallen heroes at the ANZAC Day Memorial Service at Davey Square. Standing in silence during the service was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedoms, and I was proud to be part of such a moving and unifying event. Most recently, in June, I was thrilled to celebrate a historic milestone — Strathfield’s 140th anniversary. It was a proud moment to reflect on how far we’ve come as a community and to look ahead to an even brighter future. The event was filled with stories from the past, community spirit, and laughter that spanned generations. Being Citizen of the Year has been a deeply meaningful and joy-filled experience. It’s reminded me just how special our community really is. I'm looking forward to more conversations, shared moments, and local adventures ahead. Thanks for the support, the smiles, and for making Strathfield such a great place to live. I’ll see you around—whether it’s at a community event or just in line for coffee!
