Technology Enhanced Learning News

January 2025

A message from Dr Neil Ralph, Deputy Director of Technology Enhanced Learning

Welcome to the first edition of TEL News 2025.

We have a busy year ahead of us with many new opportunities to look forward to. The eLfH platform celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and we are planning a series of celebratory and profile-raising activities - look out for more details in the coming weeks. The refreshed Long Term Workforce Plan and new 10 Year Health Plan will also bring further opportunities to showcase the uses and importance of technology enhanced learning across our organisations.

We will continue to work with our partners to create and innovate new education programmes using the latest technology. I look forward to working with you all and seeing our ground-breaking work in full use.

Pharmacy 'A Day in the Life' Facilitator Guide

A new set of resources have been launched for the Pharmacy ‘A Day in the Life’ programme. The programme offers insights into what it is like to work in pharmacy; to gain an understanding of the variety of roles available and to increase understanding of the qualifications, skills and attributes required.

The Facilitator Guide has been created to support facilitator-led, face-to-face learning opportunities that encourage group participation and promote discussion. It includes:

  • Facilitator presentation - prepopulated with videos, key points and reflections and can be customised to suit the desired facilitation structure
  • Facilitator guide - providing advice, guidance, supporting resources and signposting and a suggested plan for the delivery of the session
  • Downloadable scenarios allow for bespoke delivery tailored to your learning objective.

This model can be used with or without headsets and is compatible with an immersive room.

To access these resources, log on to the Learning Hub and search for ‘Pharmacy A Day in the Life.

Immersive Technology Case Studies on the Learning Hub

The Simulation and Immersive Technology team have concluded many of their pilot projects and the summaries and findings from these pilots have helped them to create more than 40 easy-to-understand case studies that are now available on the Learning Hub. The case studies cover a range of immersive technologies and a range of care settings including primary care, community, and acute. The findings show what worked well and what could be improved, to give a true picture of how immersive technologies can be used to support workforce education and meet the needs of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.

We would like to thank all the contributors and the learners who shared photos of themselves enjoying their immersive learning experiences!

The case studies are available in the Simulation and Immersive Technologies catalogue on the Learning Hub.

Platform Updates

Digital Learning Platforms

The Learning Hub provides easy access to a wide range of educational resources, elearning, specialist health and care content which has been developed or shared by professional organisations such as the Royal Colleges, universities and other health and care organisations.

This month the Learning Hub will be undergoing an audit to improve accessibility compliance.  The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (known as WCAG) are an internationally recognised set of recommendations for improving web accessibility. This will ensure our platform is accessible to everyone including users with impairments to their vision, hearing, mobility, thinking and understanding.

Digital Learning Solutions

Our Digital Learning Solutions (DLS) platform provides access to basic digital literacy training.

In order to improve the experience of those managing self-assessment frameworks and reduce duplication there have been some changes to the DLS. Going forward, an administrator, a supervisor, or a nominated supervisor will be able to manage or supervise self-assessments assigned to their admin category only.

If you are interested in our DLS and shaping the future of the Learning Hub, please register your interest with our User Research team. If you would like to speak to someone about the TEL platforms, please email the TEL Platforms Implementation Managers.
