Click here 15 December 2022Cr Matthew Blackmore, Mayor of Strathfield As we head into the Christmas break and are busy wrapping things up, I would like to thank all the residents who have given me messages of support and advice over the year, as I work for you as your Mayor. The Council Staff, Councillors and I have had some enormous challenges and changes over the year and our organisation has been transformed. We are heading in a positive direction after some tough decisions on budget savings with more to come and a shift into the future of only focusing on the essential services. We are currently reviewing the Strathfield Connector bus which is costing Council more than $1.3 million per year. This service is not a core Council service, however consecutive State Members have not been able to fix transport gaps in particular pockets of our local government area. Currently, the Connector service is costing $83 per residential ratepayer per year, whether you are one of the few who use it or not. Your feedback is vital to this review, please visit the website to have your say. If you have any local matters that you would like to discuss, please reach out to me on 0428 952 095 or cr.mblackmore@strathfield.nsw.gov.au A Surprise Visit from Santa! We had a very special visitor for our last Storytime session for 2022. Santa made his way over to Fitzgerald Park to read stories and sing along to some all-time favourite classics. Keep your eyes peeled for next year’s Storytime sessions to introduce your little ones to the wonderful world of books. In the meantime, you can visit the library on your schedule over the Christmas break with extended hours access! Visit the website to learn more and register. There's an online info session tonight, and a pop up stall at Cooke Park on Saturday. Can't make it? Head to the website for all the info and how you can share your feedback. Final Call! Cosgrove Rd, Strathfield South Resheeted Locals would have noticed our road teams out fixing pot holes and resheeting roads. Above are before and after pictures of Cosgrove Rd, Strathfield South. The new road looks great, but there is much more to be done. Council is proposing a special rate variation to help fund asset renewal including roads and footpaths. Visit the website for more information. Strathfield Connector Survey The Strathfield Connector bus is under review for possible cost savings. Do you use the service, or simply have something to add? Visit the website and share your feedback. Holiday Notification Period During the Christmas and New Year period, notification for all Development Applications, Section 4.55 Applications and Section 8.2 Review Applications, will be extended beyond the regular notification periods in accordance with Council’s Community Participation Plan and Schedule 1 of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 to exclude any days between (inclusive) 20 December 2022 and 10 January 2023. Please contact Council for information on 9748 9999. Strathfield Snakes Be on the lookout this summer for snakes basking in the sun, and hanging out in tall grass. When in parks, it’s important to be alert and take the following precautions:
Australian snakes are protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 so it’s illegal to kill or remove snakes without appropriate authority. Snakes aren’t the fondest of humans, so they’ll usually scurry away if they hear you coming. However, if you do happen to spot a brave one, stay calm and quietly back away from it. If you are bitten by a snake, call 000 immediately. COMMUNITY NEWSChristmas Masses in Strathfield 'Tis the Season!
