Students who currently live on campus recently received information about important 2024 – 2025 housing deadlines, as well as helpful resources and instructions. If your student currently lives on campus, please pay special attention to this message. The information and instructions your student received will depend on their housing status. We’ve included all of the information shared with students in the message below so you can effectively support your student as they navigate housing for next academic year. We encourage you to carefully review this message, and to check in with your student to make sure they received and read an email from housingcontracts@ucsd.edu. We also encourage you to use the information provided in this message to start a conversation with your student about their housing plans. Home Away From Home: Navigating Student Housing for Next Year Whether your student is planning to live on or off campus, the process of finding a place to live can be challenging. This session will cover everything from applying for campus housing, hunting for off-campus apartments, navigating housing contracts, and commuter resources. Read this if your student was admitted in Fall 2023 OR has scholar status with a housing guarantee.The room selection process begins on Wednesday, February 21. There are many steps and deadlines to the room selection process. Students must meet each deadline in the room selection process to keep their housing guarantee. Failure to meet any deadline will result in the loss of your student’s housing guarantee. Encourage your student to:
Read this if your student was admitted prior to Fall 2023 and does not have scholar status with a housing guarantee.If your student does not have a housing guarantee for next year, they may still be able to secure campus housing. Your student can express their interest for 2024-25 campus housing via the Housing Interest Form in their Housing Portal. There are two steps your student must complete to submit an interest form:
Please note that submitting an interest form does not guarantee a campus housing assignment for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students will be offered space based on availability. The interest form will be open from February 21 through February 28. Students who miss the deadline for the housing interest list will need to wait to join the undergraduate housing waitlist, which will be available in mid-July. When exploring housing options, we encourage your student to consider their commute to campus. Selecting housing in a neighborhood with great transit service can make your student’s commute faster, more reliable, and more productive, all while reducing environmental impact and helping your student save money. Check out our list of neighborhoods with convenient transit access. If your student is unsure of their plans, we recommend they complete the room selection processes listed above, depending on their housing status. There is no fee or cost associated with completing the room selection process or submitting a housing interest form until your student signs a housing contract.
