We are already full steam ahead with a busy but exciting year in front of us. This year, there will be an increased focus on strengthening regulation, ensuring compliance, and responding to the needs of our stakeholders. This will include an increased and flexible approach to service provider audits, tackling compliance challenges with innovative approaches and the development of Foundations of Workers’ Compensation, an online learning program for claims managers. FOCUSPTSD Presumption for Ambulance WorkersWorkers' Compensation and Injury Management Regulations 2021From 1 February 2022, ambulance workers diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder can claim workers' compensation without needing to prove it was a result of their work. This is the result of an election commitment by the McGowan government. OTHER NEWSInsurer and Self-Insurer EssentialsWelcome to Workers' CompensationOn 2 March, WorkCover WA will be hosting an educational seminar for those working for an approved insurer or self-insurer. The seminar will provide attendees with an overview of WorkCover WA, the Western Australian workers’ compensation and injury management scheme, and the role of insurers and self-insurers within the scheme. This seminar would be well-suited for staff new to the industry, or those who are seeking to refresh their knowledge. Strengthening RegulationImproving standards of service providersIn the coming months, WorkCover WA officers will be facilitating and conducting audits of service providers, including approved hearing testers and workplace rehabilitation providers. Service providers play an essential role by ensuring the workers’ compensation and injury management scheme functions effectively. Audits are important as they help maintain and improve the quality of service provided to injured workers and their employers. If you’re a service provider, you can expect to hear from us soon. Paralympian Ben Popham visits WorkCover WAInternational Day of People with DisabilityOn Monday, 6 December 2021, WorkCover WA staff had the pleasure of meeting Ben Popham, an Australian swimmer who won two golds at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. He spoke of his experiences growing up with a disability, how he began his swimming career and his experience being at the Paralympics.
