RECENT GRADUATE SURVEY

Tip of the Week

💡 Stay current on engineering salaries, APEGA Salary Survey

Do you dread answering the "What's your starting salary expectation" question during an interview?

While it is generally understood that a candidate should never bring up salary during a first interview, one always needs to be prepared to answer this question if it’s asked. Part of being prepared means knowing about the job market, and the APEGA annual salary survey is one source that can help you understand current compensation for engineering roles in Alberta. More information on salary can also be found at Access Helpful Resources.

Remember, your aim when communicating your salary expectations is to ensure that you are competitive during the hiring process (i.e., you aren’t asking for significantly more than other candidates), and that, if hired, you are fairly compensated (i.e., you don’t undervalue your contribution to a company).

Looking for more information about answering this question? Check out Answering Difficult Questions and Ace Your Interviews.
