It was a pleasure to attend the Graduation Day at my former High School this week.
I presented Strathfield South local Eleni Houllis the Women in Careers Award, this award is supported by local business women and aims to foster the future careers of local students.

Strathfield Town Centre Working Group
Do you have ideas you'd like to contribute towards the Strathfield Town Centre Masterplan? Strathfield Council invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) for prospective members for the creation of a Strathfield Town Centre Masterplan Working Group. EOIs will be accepted up until Friday 14 October 2022 at 5:00 PM.
Labour Day Public Holiday
Strathfield Council will be closed on Monday 3 October 2022 due to the Labour Day Public Holiday and will re-open on Tuesday 4 October 2022.

Single-Use Plastics Ban
From 1 November 2022, NSW is banning certain single-use plastics which include:
- Single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, bowls, plates, cotton buds
- Expanded polystyrene food service items such as clamshells, cups, plates and bowls
- Certain rinse-off personal care products containing plastic microbeads
The plastic ban will prevent almost 2.7 billion items of plastic litter from entering our natural environment and waterways over the next 20 years.

Stepping On in Tamil
Stepping On is a free falls prevention program that enables older people to build knowledge and skills to stay active and independent. It is in partnership with Sydney Local Health District and Healthy Eating Active Living. These sessions are targeted for Tamil speakers.
Light Interactions
Light Interactions by Bernadette Smith will be exhibited at at the Ironbark Gallery from 20 October. This exhibition features photographs recording macro sunlight refractions within heritage glass. Book in your spot for the upcoming official opening below.

The Queen’s Cup
As we mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we can remember the contribution made by a young Strathfield lady to the celebrations following her coronation. Stenographer Judith Wilkinson, employed by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, discovered in their archives that the Company had presented Queen Elizabeth I with a silver-gilt, covered cup for her coronation in 1558. Judith suggested that the Company repeat the gesture for the new queen. A competition was held for the design and Queen Elizabeth II was presented with the Queen’s Cup, worth £500, at a banquet after her Australian tour in 1954.
