Supporting our wildlife and environment during extreme weather events

Extreme weather events can shake up both human communities and wildlife habitats, causing temporary displacement, resource challenges and even injuries.

As we start to get outdoors in our backyards and natural areas, you may come across injured or disorientated wildlife. Here are some tips to assist our local wildlife:

👉 If you find an unwell or injured bird, small mammal or small non-venomous reptile, use a towel to carefully wrap and secure it.
👉 Place it in a secured, ventilated box and put it in a warm, dark and quiet place.
👉 Take the animal to the nearest vet or wildlife hospital. If you are unable to transport it, call your local wildlife rescue organisation.

❌ Do not offer injured wildlife food or water.
❌ Do not handle snakes, raptors, flying foxes, koalas, wallabies and kangaroos, and large reptiles.

❗ Remember, your safety takes priority. Do not attempt to help wildlife if you are not confident to do so or conditions are unsafe.
