QLDC Winter Road Report - 3 July 2023

Ata Mārie Queenstown Lakes,

Well the forecast snow dump was a bit of a fizzer locally but at least the mountains are looking a bit better!

Here's an overview of conditions out there this morning:

Crown Range Road - snow has fallen overnight 1km either side of summit. Crews have cleared and gritted the road but please take extra care, especially on the corners and steeper parts - it will be slippery.    Chains must be carried.

Cardrona Valley Road - expect a mix of wet and dry conditions, road temps are sitting between -1 to +4.  Crews have applied grit and CMA (the spray we use to stop ice forming) to the usual risk areas.

Wānaka area - the roads are mainly dry with positive temperatures.   Nice Wānaka!

Whakatipu Basin - expect wet roads - risk areas have been gritted but please take extra care around day break as ice will likely form.

Fernhill and Glenorchy Road - expect a mix of road conditions - shaded areas have been gritted, please take care.

Kawarau Gorge and the Devils Staircase to Kingston - expect wet roads - crews have applied grit around the risk areas.

Crews will continue to monitor roads as the day wears on, and they're working to grit spots they come across where ice is forming.  We'll provide any updates via the QLDC facebook page.

If you spot any issues on the road today, give us a call on 03 441 0499 and let us know.

Have a great Monday.

Rebecca

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
