Headlines this month: Carry on reading for further information on these stories or for more details of the Sprint project visit tfwm.org.uk/sprint New stop names announced following public engagement Our online shelter naming engagement ran over the summer and was designed to encourage local people and bus passengers to suggest more appropriate names for certain stops. The engagement closed last month with all suggestions reviewed by the TfWM Integrated Information team. Like all transport authorities, TfWM has to abide by national naming criteria which have to be met for all bus stops. However, based on the suggestions we received, three stops will now be renamed with one gaining additional text. These are: • Burlington Street to be renamed The Bartons Arms These name changes will be adopted over the next few weeks. We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in the engagement, for giving us your feedback on the new Sprint shelters and for making alternative naming suggestions for some of the stops. Due to national public transport rules we were prevented from considering some suggestions, such as naming stops after eminent local people, the 19th century philanthropist and major Birmingham benefactor Louisa Ryland being one suggestion. However, we do intend to make use of the available space on the rear of some shelters along the Sprint route, to provide information that will highlight the historical, or cultural context of an area. Almost 40% of the new Sprint shelters have now been installed as part of the first phase of work, with 50% of the shelter foundations now in place. 76 shelters are being installed as part of phase 1 to improve both the comfort and safety of bus users, with all new shelters meeting Local Authority highway safety standards. Construction update Overnight closure on the A45 are continuing to allow for resurfacing work. Clearly signed diversion routes are in place. Overnight closures are also continuing on the A34 between Rocky Lane and the Scott Arms junction. Further details, along with parking advice during the overnight closures, have been sent to residents and businesses along that stretch of the A34. Clearly signed diversion routes are in place. Shelter installation work has started in Solihull with four new Sprint shelters expected to be installed before Christmas. We understand the frustrations for motorists and for residents and businesses along the route, and apologise for the inconvenience these essential works are causing. However, we take a zero tolerance approach to all instances of abuse and aggressive or violent behaviour towards our operatives, with all such instances always recorded and reported to the police. You can find out more up to details of our Sprint construction works by visiting the Transport for West Midlands Sprint Page. We’ll continue to monitor traffic management on both the A34 and A45, liaising regularly with the Regional Transport Coordination Centre (RTCC) and our contractors to minimise disruption. In brief – Sprint teams making a difference The A45 Sprint team are taking part in The Big Sleep Out on Friday 3rd December and have already raised £730 in advance of the big night. All money raised will go to St Basils Homeless Charity. St Basils is a local charity working mainly with young people to enable them to find and keep a home. Our teams also launched a Road Safety poster competition in November involving a number of local schools along both the A45 and A34. All poster entries will be displayed along the Sprint route to highlight our road safety campaign. Planned activity next month · Continuing shelter installation work · Construction work continuing all along the corridor · Further tree installation along the Sprint route.
