Wood Smoke isn’t Good Smoke Winter is here, and it’s cooling down. Minimising the emission of visible smoke from wood heaters and fireplaces can have substantial health benefits for the community. Ensure your wood heater is not causing a smoke nuisance to your neighbours. THROWBACK THURSDAY Oldsmobile v Roller Can you pick the location of the unfortunate accident between the Oldsmobile and Council’s street roller during November 1959? The tennis courts in the background stood on Liverpool Road, opposite Rickard Road in Strathfield South for 12 years. They did not long survive this photo. You might be able to spot a ‘For Sale’ sign on the fence just behind the roller. The courts were demolished in 1960 to make room for Australia’s second automatic tenpin bowling centre – now Strathfield Superbowl. The first centre at Hurstville closed in 1987 so the Superbowl must now be Australia’s oldest automatic bowling centre. Accident between Strathfield Council roller and Oldsmobile, November 1959.
