On 1 August 2026, amendments to the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE), which are relevant to early childhood education and care (ECEC) and outside school hours care (OSHC) services, will commence.
New DSE courses coming soon
New and updated e-learning courses will soon be available through the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) Portal to support teachers and educators to understand their obligations. Four new DSE courses tailored to the early childhood sector are expected to be available on the NCCD Portal in mid-August 2026, replacing the current Disability Standards for Education for Early Childhood (Prior to School) course:
- Early Childhood Leaders
- Early Childhood Teachers
- Early Childhood Educators
- Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators
Transition from the existing course
On 21 July 2026, Education Services Australia sent an email to all registered NCCD Portal users who have started, but not yet completed, either Part 1 or Part 2 of the current course, advising them of their options to either complete the current course or wait for the new courses.
Approved providers are encouraged to share this information with their service staff to support educators and teachers with the transition to the new DSE courses. New course availability will be announced via the NCCD Portal homepage and NCCD social media channels so please keep an eye out for further updates.
