Message From Your Chancellor's Associates Chair Next week is u.care, UC San Diego’s Day of Caring. Beginning on Thursday, May 13 at 6 a.m. and continuing for 32 hours, u.care runs 1,960 minutes in honor of UC San Diego’s founding year. Last year the Triton community rallied together for u.care to raise $839,465 to support UC San Diego’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Chancellor’s Associates can directly support the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship. You can show your support by making a gift or posting on social media with #UCSDCares and tagging @UCSDgiving. We hope you will spread the word about this powerful fundraising opportunity with your network and showcase the positive impact Chancellor’s Associates has on students’ lives. To become a u.care ambassador, sign up here. With Triton Pride, Jerrilyn Malana ’86 Service, Pride & Inclusion Silberman Challenge II/CA Designation Update Inspired by the Chancellor’s Scholarship and Fellowship Challenge announced earlier this year, visionary Chancellor’s Associates Karen and Jeff Silberman are leveraging the match to help encourage others to support our extraordinary scholars. The Karen and Jeff Silberman Chancellor’s Associates Inspiration Challenge II provides a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $667,000, to support Chancellor’s Associates Scholarships. Donors with a qualifying gift for the Inspiration Challenge II will be recognized at the total matched gift level. Current Chancellor’s Associates have the opportunity to increase their impact when they upgrade their giving level or make a multi-year commitment! We are also happy to announce that when you renew your gift, you can now designate your gift to support a scholar in any of the seven academic divisions below:
Gifts without a designation will support general Chancellor’s Associates Scholarships. If you have questions or would like additional information about Chancellor’s Associates’ new Inspiration Challenge II or gift designation, click here or contact us at ca@ucsd.edu. Chancellor’s Associates Scholars Calling Campaign for Transfers We would like to invite you to participate in the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship Calling Campaign. This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to newly admitted transfer students to congratulate them on their admission, answer questions about the campus, encourage participation in virtual campus yield activities, such as receptions and Triton Days, and put UC San Diego top of mind as their first-choice university. This year’s calling campaign runs through June 1. Every volunteer will be provided with a phone script, as well as an account for you to log into the Calling Campaign tool. Once your account is created, you will be emailed login instructions and unique credentials. Calling instructions and guidelines will be available within the tool. If you would like to participate, please email ca@ucsd.edu by Friday, May 7. North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood Springs to Life The transformation is complete. The entire North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood is now springing to life, with dining amenities, academic buildings and the Craft Center all preparing for full occupancy and function. Sixth College students have been living and studying in the neighborhood since fall, and thanks to the marked success of the Return to Learn program, are enjoying the benefits and phenomenal design of UC San Diego’s first living and learning neighborhood. Read about all the changes here. Donor Advised Funds: A quick and easy way to support Chancellor’s Associates Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are gaining in popularity. They are a great financial planning tool and provide a convenient and simple way to make charitable gifts. A DAF can be thought of like a charitable savings account. You make a gift of cash or stock (or even more complex assets) to create the fund and you receive an income tax deduction (and possibly avoid capital gains tax too). Then, you have the flexibility to recommend a grant or recurring grants at any time to support Chancellor’s Associates or other charitable programs of interest. You can also add assets to the fund at any point. DAF assets are invested for growth and they grow tax-free. Note that you may not receive a personal benefit such as event tickets or parking privileges in return for any DAF grant. DAFs can be established with the UC San Diego Foundation, with local community foundations and with the charitable arms of any number of investment firms. To learn more about DAFs or for answers to any planned gift question, please contact Kim Wenrick in the Office of Gift Planning at kwenrick@ucsd.edu or at 858-761-2099. __________________________________ Virtual Events & Resources We strongly encourage you to engage with the myriad of events sponsored by our campus partners throughout the year.
