Congratulations to Bethlehem AM recipient Susan Mathers!

28 January 2025

Heartfelt congratulations to our hugely talented and passionate Clinical Director of Neurology, Associate Professor Susan Mathers, who was this weekend awarded a Member of the Order of Australia at this year’s Australia Day honours.

Susan received the award for her “Significant service to medicine as a clinician, and to neurological research”.

Well done Susan! We have seen the work that she has put in for many years in initiatives with clinicians and researchers across the country trying to consolidate the work being done in search of a cure and better care for those with a progressive neurological disease. At Calvary Health Care Bethlehem we see first-hand her work as Director of Neurology caring for patients and their families as well as her role mentoring staff. Susan has promoted the integration of research involvement with clinical care for patients with neurodegenerative diseases – reflecting what people living with these diseases tell us that they need.

CONGRATULATIONS

Associate Professor Susan Elizabeth MATHERS

Thank you and congratulations Susan!

Susan (centre) was instrumental in setting up the MND Collective featuring members from FIGHT MND, MND Australia, MND Victoria, researchers from across the country and a number of people with lived experience. Last year they met here at Calvary Kooyong.

Susan was instrumental in helping set up the Community of Practice for MND Care with young Palliative Medicine specialist Dharshini Kunahlan (l)

Continuing the Mission of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary

In 1885, six courageous Sisters sailed into Sydney to continue the mission of Venerable Mary Potter and the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary to care for those in need. Thus began Calvary’s enduring legacy of care in Australia. Today, we continue their mission, in our hospitals, home and virtual care services, retirement living and residential aged care homes across five states and two territories.
