Kaya (hello) reader,

The first half of the year has swept past us, with some exciting projects completed and many more to go! This past week we successfully hosted hundreds of stakeholders from across the allied health, insurance and workplace rehabilitation fields at our breakfast event, Rehab in Motion. Attendees received the first look at our two new regulatory products for workplace rehabilitation providers, which you can read about below.

Off the back of this insightful event, we’ve also launched tickets for the WorkCover WA Conference, scheduled for October this year. Bigger and bolder than ever, this year’s Conference will deliver a program filled with dynamic, diverse and inspiring speakers from around the world. Planning is well underway for this engaging and collaborative one-day event at Optus Stadium, which will be followed by an evening function celebrating the ARPA WA Excellence in Workplace Rehabilitation Awards.

We have many more exciting projects and collaborations in the pipeline for this year, so make sure to stay subscribed so you don’t miss out on the latest updates!

FOCUS

Focus on responsibility

Failure to have a valid workers' compensation insurance policy

Our compliance team identifies and collects evidence to infringe or prosecute cases when an employer operates while uninsured.

A company was recently fined and ordered to pay avoided premiums totalling $214,989.77 for not holding a valid workers' compensation insurance policy.

The company’s director was also fined $20,000.00, with the Court finding the director had failed to follow-up after delegating responsibility for insurance obligations to a third party.

Directors are ultimately responsible for legal obligations and must confirm compliance by obtaining a Certificate of Currency issued by the insurer.

New products now available for Workplace Rehabilitation Providers

Last week we launched two new products for Workplace Rehabilitation Providers at a sell-out industry event at Beaumonde on the Point. Just under 300 attendees from a range of organisations gathered to learn about the new products, hear from industry experts, and network with other workers’ compensation and injury management professionals.

These new products are free for all industry stakeholders and are specifically designed to assist those in the workplace rehabilitation space to develop their understanding of workers’ compensation and optimise their client service delivery.

National Reconciliation Week

27 May - 3 June 2023

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

As part of our commemorations for National Reconciliation Week, staff gathered for a viewing of The Grey Line. This moving documentary tells the story of Helen, a member of the Stolen Generation.

Following the screening staff engaged in a Q & A session with Helen, her daughter Kayah and filmmaker Scott Quayle, to learn more about how to ‘be a voice for generations’.
