QLDC Winter Road Report - 7 July 2023

Good morning everyone,

Friday brings you good vibes and a chilly start.  Here's what to expect this morning:

Crown Range - dry roads and cold temperatures.  Crews have applied CMA to help stop the ice forming and you can expect some loose grit in areas.   Take it easy like Friday morning, especially on those corners and steep sections.

Cardrona Valley - conditions here are much the same as the Crown Range.

Wānaka area - looking pretty good - the roads are dry and temperatures a low.

Whakatipu Basin - a mix of damp and dry roads - and you know what that means... that's right - ice is likely to form, particularly around day break.  Drive safely.

Fernhill and Glenorchy Road - the roads are dry and the known risk areas have been gritted.

If your car isn't lucky enough to spend its evenings in the warmth of a garage, remember to clear your windscreen and external mirrors of ice.   We've got free ice scrapers available at Council offices if you need one.  They're much better than using cards from your wallet and you get to pop in and say hello to our awesome customer services crew!

Enjoy your Friday everyone!

Rebecca

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
