Willis Creek Bridge strengthening: changed traffic arrangements

Council has engaged a contractor to strengthen the Willis Creek Bridge on Tenterden Road. This work will allow the existing 25 tonne limit to be removed, aiding the more efficient movement of goods and services between Guyra and Tingha.

Work commenced on Monday 26 May and is expected to be completed by Friday 30 May 2025, weather permitting.

During this period, traffic will be diverted to the causeway adjoining the bridge and the traffic flow will be under the control of traffic lights during the day and “Give Way” signage afterhours. The causeway will be upgraded to allow the school bus to continue operation with minimal disruption while the bridge is temporarily disassembled.

Vehicle users of Tenterden Road, Mordun Dams Road and New Valley Road between Wandsworth and Tingha will experience traffic disruptions and are encouraged to bypass Willis Creek via the Guyra to Tingha Road. Please plan your trips accordingly.

The strengthen bridge will support heavier vehicles, reducing transport costs for those reliant on heavy transport.

Water Drops

FACT: Armidale Regional Council faced the daunting task of carting water using 5 B-double trucks daily during the severe drought in 2019. This emergency measure provided each resident with 120 litres of water per day, which is about half of their usual consumption.

However, this amount did not cover the additional requirements of the hospital and local businesses, highlighting the severity of the water crisis. The drought is estimated to have cost the Armidale Regional Council $6.3 million in the 2019/20 financial year, significantly impacting the level of the Council's water reserve.

In a proactive step towards enhancing long-term water security, ARC appointed Public Works Advisory (PWA) in March 2020 to identify options and cost estimates for upgrading the storage capacity of Malpas Dam, demonstrating a commitment to investing in critical water infrastructure.

Join our team of Companion Animal Shelter volunteers!

We’re currently in need of passionate volunteers who have consistent morning and weekend availability. While we always appreciate help with our dogs, cats are our biggest priority right now. We’re looking for volunteers who can help with feeding, cleaning, playing with the animals, assisting with animal intakes, and setting up cages.

If you’re comfortable walking dogs, cleaning pens, and doing laundry, we would love your help with our wonderful pups as well! Plus, if you’re handy with tools, we could use some help with small maintenance tasks and lawn mowing.

Your time makes a world of difference to these animals, and we’re counting on you to provide the care and love they deserve.
