Untrained Rescuers Drowning on Our Beaches - Report
The 2023 NSW Coastal Safety Report has highlighted a stark increase in bystander rescue drownings along with the finding that more than half of coastal drownings are happening in regional and remote areas.
Parliamentary Friends of Surf Life Saving
With no beach in sight, volunteer surf lifesavers and our Nippers shared a sausage sandwich with MPs at NSW Parliament House last Thursday. There was great support from all politicians who thanked our volunteers for giving back to the community on beaches everywhere.

GoodSAM
Surf Life Saving NSW is excited to announce it has partnered with GoodSAM, a program that helps save lives by empowering members of the community to respond quickly when someone nearby goes into cardiac arrest. People who sign up for the GoodSAM program do not need to be trained in CPR or First Aid – the program is open to anyone who is willing and able to help their neighbour by performing chest compressions.
NSW Office of Sport Surf Club Facility Program
Applications are open for the NSW Office of Sport Surf Club Facility Program. The Program assists NSW Surf Life Saving clubs to develop facilities that will enable increased participation, increased use of facilities by other community groups and/or the public, improved safety, and improved financial and/or environmental sustainability.
Volunteer Patrol Support Program
SLSNSW is again asking for expressions of interest from members wishing to support smaller clubs as visiting patrolling members over the summer and Christmas holiday period. This is a great opportunity to utilise your lifesaving skills at another beach location, and at the same time visit some amazing coastal destinations. Grants & Fundraising
Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through the Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.
