In October 2022, WHO convened a technical consultation of independent experts to review data from the Community Access to Rectal Artesunate for Malaria (CARAMAL) project and from other studies evaluating the deployment of pre-referral rectal artesunate (RAS) at the programmatic level. The outcomes of the review form the basis of this updated information note. In response to high demand for the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine, 12 countries in Africa will be given a total of 18 million doses of the vaccine over the period 2023–2025, according to a press release issued jointly by WHO, Gavi and UNICEF. The allocations were determined by applying the principles outlined in the WHO Framework for the allocation of limited malaria vaccine supply. |
