Explore Rookwood Cemetery through art at the Ironbark Gallery Echoes of Silence is a collection of artworks that has grown from regular visits Amanda Hitchens and Clair Reynolds have taken, exploring and photographing Rookwood Cemetery. Photographs taken during these visits developed into works utilising various materials such as tracing paper, acrylic and metal, reflecting themes of memory, loss, and the quiet resilience of nature. Courtesy University of Sydney Professor James Douglas Stewart (1869-1955) Professor James Douglas Stewart of Berelle, 81 Homebush Road Strathfield studied veterinary science in Edinburgh, returning home to found the Veterinary Medical Association of NSW and become Chief Inspector of Stock. In 1909 he accepted the foundation Chair of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney where he lectured in every subject. He was veterinary surgeon and advisor to the Australian Jockey Club from 1908 to 1953 and was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1936. Today, both the J.D. Stewart Veterinary Science Foundation, and Building, at the University of Sydney continue his work.
