Things can happen in daily life to trigger anger — you lose your phone or the traffic after work is bad. Anger can be a natural reaction, and it usually settles down once the trigger has gone or you've reached a solution. There are a couple of different ways that we deal with anger. Some people have 'anger explosions'. This happens when they're so angry they lose control and either verbally or physically lash out. Others have 'anger repression'. This is when they push their angry feelings deep down and bottle them up. Unmanaged anger issues can lead to many physical and mental health conditions. These can include:
Before you can manage anger, you need to understand what the underlying cause is. Some of the reasons could be grief, fear, powerlessness, trauma or pain. We've added some suggestions for you to help manage your anger. If you feel like you can't control your feelings of anger and need help, see your GP or a mental health clinician. You can also call @beyondblueofficial on 1300 22 4636 to talk to a counsellor. Remember you can always access our EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP). Find out more by clicking the link below.
