Welcome to March

Hi folks,

There has been considerable discussion and correspondence received recently regarding the proposed Miami Satellite Depot, earmarked for Frank Murray Park at 158 Pacific Avenue, Miami.

Many local residents have raised serious and valid concerns about the proposal, particularly the suggested vehicle access via Sonia Street - a quiet residential street where the street is already narrow. You are also concerned about increased traffic, noise, and the potential impact on your ability to safely access your homes and driveways. I also recognise the concern for loss of green space.

Please be assured that both the City and I are listening. Many of you have already provided thoughtful feedback through the City’s Have Your Say process. While community consultation remains open until Friday 27 March, City officers are now actively investigating alternative options.

This includes exploring other potential locations, considering the need for local service vehicles to be based nearby, and assessing what impacts those vehicles may have.

I encourage you to keep the submissions coming and have your say by clicking here.

Weekly social videos
Keeping our community informed and connected is important to me. That’s why I regularly share videos and updates on my Facebook and Instagram pages.

You may have seen my Myth Busting Monday, Wednesday Wins, and Friday Weekly Wrap Up videos, where I aim to be open and transparent, share local updates, and clarify any misinformation circulating in the community.

My videos often cover:
✔️ Issues impacting local residents, including proposed infrastructure and park upgrades
✔️Have Your Say community consultations
✔️Sharing my thoughts after Full Council - last week I shared why I didn’t vote for the Local Growth Management Strategy (LGMS) and Gold Coast Arena.
✔️Recently I addressed in a Myth Busting Monday video, misinformation around homelessness, explained Council’s responsibilities, and outlined the legal processes involved in keeping our shared spaces safe
✔️A glimpse into my day to day life - not just as your Councillor, but also as a husband, father, founder of Albatross Nippers (an inclusive Nippers program for children with special needs) and regular at local sporting events.

I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful.

E-bike and personal mobility device compliance trial at Pizzey Park

🚲E-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards and segways are currently prohibited at Pizzey Park 🙅‍♂️

Many locals have voiced their concerns and disappointment of some riders behaving poorly at Pizzey Park in recent months. We’ve seen dangerous and unlawful riding at this location, putting members of the public at significant risk of serious injury or worse.

Since Monday 2 March, Council have been running a 4-week Local Law compliance trial at Pizzey Park prohibiting personal mobility devices 🛹

👮Council officers have been on-site during the trial period, focusing on educating riders, with warnings and fines issued where required.

⚖️The results will be reported back to Council in May 2026.

📺I caught up with Karl Stefanovic from the Today Show earlier this month to talk about the ban 👉Click here to watch the video

Meanwhile the Parliamentary Inquiry into E-Bikes/PMDs has since been reported to Parliament. The Committee tabled it's report on 4 March and can be found here. The State Government will now respond to those recommendations.

Walk together to end domestic violence

Proud to present this $1,610.72 cheque to Women's Legal Service Queensland in support of their upcoming Epic Walk for DV Prevention event. 💜Joining me is Epic Hair Designs CEO Brendon Mann - the founder of this event, along with fellow WLSQ ambassador Brendan Smith.

On Sunday 22 March, our community will come together for a powerful cause - raising awareness and funds to help prevent domestic and family violence on the Gold Coast. They have an office in Southport.

More than 150 locals are expected to take part in the 5km Epic Walk, starting from North Burleigh Surf Club, heading to Burleigh Headland and back. This accessible morning walk is a positive way for individuals, families and friends to stand together and show their support.

👉 Register for the walk here.

Lancelin Drive Reserve shade structure

Construction to replace the shade structure at Lancelin Drive Reserve in Mermaid Waters was completed earlier this month.

You may notice in the before and after images that the swings are not covered by the new shade structure. This was intentional, as the beautiful Poinciana tree already provides excellent natural shade over that section of the playground. Installing additional shade in this area would have risked damaging the tree, so it was important to preserve this natural feature. 🌳

Construction of the shade structure at Dotterel Park in Burleigh Waters has now been competed with the playground opened for families to enjoy.

Bel Air Park

Shade sail works for Bel Air Park in Mermaid Waters were completed last week, providing greater coverage and sun protection. The playground has also had a makeover with new soft-fall surfacing, sandstone seating and a modern slide module installed.

Have Your Say - Parking around Marymount College

Many locals have raised concerns about the parking in and around Marymount College, particularly during school drop off and pick up times. Nearby residential streets are also being parked out making it difficult for drivers to enter and exit their homes.

🤝I’ve been working with Hermann Vorster MP to come up with a solution to free up much-needed parking near the college on Reedy Creek Road.

🚗One option is to introduce timed parking to move on advertising trailers so there is more on-street parking available when it is needed most.

But, before we make any changes, we want to hear you!

GC Have Your Say – Proposed depot location in Miami

The City is proposing to develop a new Miami Satellite Depot, earmarked for Frank Murray Park at 158 Pacific Avenue, Miami.

The new depot is required due to the vacating of the existing Miami Depot which has been leased by the City for transformation into a dynamic creative industries hub. This future development will support the screen, technology, and gaming sectors, driving economic growth and creating new employment opportunities for the Gold Coast.

As a result, Frank Murray Park has been identified as the preferred location for the new Miami Satellite Depot. A new satellite depot is required to:
• Maintain essential services in the beachfront suburbs
• Provide a fit-for-purpose facility that meets operational needs
• Support field-based staff who service the surrounding area.

🏗 Construction is proposed to commence in late 2026/early 2027.

📅 Consultation closes Friday 27 March.

GC Have Your Say - boat ramp Live camera trial

The City is conducting an initial trial with cameras at 2 popular boat ramp locations – Jacobs Well and Broadwater Parklands – to provide live video feeds through the City website.

Why are we doing this?

🚤Help locals and visitors plan their boating trips with up-to-date information.

🚤Understand how boat ramps are used so we can plan future upgrades.

🚤Cameras will not be used for compliance or enforcement.

Have your say
We’d love to hear your thoughts. Your feedback will help shape the future of this service and whether camera coverage should expand to other locations.

The cameras show real-time conditions and parking availability at the boat ramps, so you can plan your trip more easily.

👉 Click here to view the live camera feed

👉 Click here to find out more and to take the survey

📅 This consultation is open until 30 June 2026.
