Dr. Candace Nykiforuk Awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Community Environments and Public Policy for Wellbeing

Dr. Candace Nykiforuk, Scientific Director of the Centre for Healthy Communities, was recently awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Community Environments and Public Policy for Wellbeing until 2030. 

Part of this appointment will allow Dr. Nykiforuk to expand on work completed by the Centre for Healthy Communities that included the development of the Action-Oriented Public Health Framework on Financial Wellbeing & Financial Strain along with the Guidebook of Strategies and Indicators for Action on Financial Wellbeing & Financial Strain. Specifically, Dr. Nykiforuk will be looking to understand the relationship between financial wellbeing and health to help guide advocacy and public policy to improve overall financial wellbeing for all Canadians. 

Health Benefits, Strategies, and Examples to Help Strengthen Social Cohesion in Alberta Webinar and Panel Discussion: Recording Available

On April 23, 2024, the Centre for Healthy Communities hosted a webinar and panel discussion on Health Benefits, Strategies, and Examples to Help Strengthen Social Cohesion in Alberta. As part of this session an overview of resources developed by the Centre for Healthy Communities to build social cohesion in communities was provided.

Now Available: Highlights from the Centre for Healthy Communities 2023 Innovation Forum

On November 30, 2023, the Centre for Healthy Communities hosted an Innovation Forum on Advancing Community Safety and Wellbeing Policies in Alberta's Communities. This virtual event was hosted in partnership with Alberta Health Services, the Alberta Real Estate Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the National Collaborating Centre for Healthy Public Policy.
