Our lifeguards work hard to patrol 40 beaches during peak season and 27 beaches year-round.

Southport one step closer to Live Music Precinct

Southport is one step closer to officially becoming the home of live music, with community consultation for a Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) having kicked off this week.

With a vision for Southport to become a vibrant destination to see world-class artists - the Southport SEP aims to develop a significant live music scene for the coast while contributing to the city’s cultural economy and reputation.

The increase in visitors to the precinct and support for the local music industry will benefit many Southport businesses and residents, resulting in greater vibrancy to the area and economic output.

The community consultation explains the proposal in greater detail and asks for your feedback on the SEP, the introduction of micro-breweries and required amendments to local law and city planning policies.

If successful, the SEP will result in amendments to the Southport Priority Development Area Development Scheme, the City Plan and relevant local laws - making Southport a vibrant destination where locals can see world class artists

Staying beach safe with our legendary lifeguards

With 52 kilometres of Gold Coast beaches to patrol, the City has the largest team of professional lifeguards of any council in Australia.

Warmer days are fast approaching, and with more people heading to the beach over summer months, it's important to follow all directions from our lifeguards and swim between the red and yellow flags.

Mayor's Christmas Carols presented by Village Roadshow Theme Parks

11 December, 7pm

Experience the best highlights of the evening in a one-hour special on Channel 7 and 7plus. Tune in to watch Kate Miller-Heidke and Dami Im perform with an all-Queensland cast of local support acts. Presented by Village Roadshow Theme Parks and proudly supported by Seven News Gold Coast, Hot Tomato and HOTA.
