Senior School Notices

TERM 4 WEEK 8

Dear valued member of the PLC community,

Service Leadership

Yesterday, our Year 9 students were involved in their Service Leadership Day. Each group presented their portfolios and showcased the important work that they had been doing for their Service areas. We know that the portfolios are in safe hands with the Year 8 cohort when they are handed over to build upon next year.

Talent Galore

This week, we have seen our Year 7s involved in a special talent show in House Tutor Group with dancing, singing, and lots of musical performances. Our Year 8s have also embraced the Christmas spirit by participating in the annual Christmas dance-off. Well done to McNeil for their winning performance.

Tomorrow, we have our annual Christmas Talent Show concert on the Quad with staff and students all encouraged to wear Christmas casual dress to help them get into the holiday spirit. At the end of the day, we will also have a special Advent Service and, following this, we will announce the Speech Night prizes for students in Years 7 to 11. Prize winners and their parents will receive more information about rehearsals and seating arrangements next week.

    Performing Arts Showcase

Congratulations to all the Years 7 to 10 students who performed excellently at the Performing Arts Showcase last Thursday evening.

It was a brilliant display of what students have been working on this semester in Dance and Drama.

Sam Maxwell Announced as New Head of Sport

PLC is delighted to confirm Mr Sam Maxwell as the Head of Sport.

Mr Maxwell has been supporting PLC athletes for 18 years, initially overseeing Tennis, Cross Country, and Athletics. Now, as Head of Sport overseeing Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, his priorities will be providing sporting opportunities for every student, from just getting involved to high-performance athletes, and connecting those elite students with pathways to the professional space.

    Cameron House Fundraiser

Every year, Cameron House invites the PLC and Scotch Year 12 (Class of 2023) cohort to participate in a soccer competition for their annual fundraiser. This year, the funds raised were donated to the Cancer Council (WA). They will use the funds to continue their work in life-saving cancer research, support services, and programmes, as well as advocacy and prevention initiatives.

It was an enjoyable afternoon with our mixed teams versing each other in a round-robin competition. We look forward to being a part of this tradition with Scotch again next year.

    Staff V Student Dodgeball

At lunchtime today, the annual staff versus student dodgeball game saw some incredible feats of athleticism – especially considering the students were dressed up as "oldies" complete with Zimmer frames!

After an intense battle, the staff team was victorious defeating the Student Council team 3 to 2.

Well done and thank you everyone involved.

    Important Information

Early Finish on the Last Day of School

Please be reminded that school will finish on Thursday 8 December at 1.00 pm.

As this is outside of normal hours, the traffic warden will not be attending the Stirling Highway crosswalk at this time, however, PLC staff will help direct students across the road. As staff are not able to stop traffic, your assistance, where possible, with stopping to allow them to cross would be greatly appreciated. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas break.

    Isabel Heads to Agricultural Camp

Isabel Kent (Year 10) has won an all-expenses trip to Tasmania for a camp called 'Feed your mind, feed the world' in December.

This is a three-day camp for students wanting to learn about exciting career opportunities in agricultural science.

Located in the north-west of Tasmania within the University of Tasmania's Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, Isabel will learn how science is solving real-world challenges.

We can't wait to hear all about your trip, Isabel.

    Polocrosse Champ

It's been a big year for Polocrosse star, Tatum (Year 10), who has achieved some outstanding accomplishments, representing WA on multiple occasions.

After travelling to NSW earlier in the year to represent WA, on her return, Tatum was chosen to represent WA to compete against a touring NSW junior team. She was stong in defence and helped her team to win the 2022 WA State Championships. Tatum also came away from the State Championships with the overall Champion Junior Australian Stockhorse award for her incredible mare “Stockcare Fortune”.

WA and NSW went head-to-head in two games at the Perth Royal Show as the series continued, putting on a Polocrosse spectacular for the crowd. Tatum’s WA team once again were awarded the winning team.
